Hp probook g1 650 does not charge

Hi everyone, I have a problem with this laptop Hp probook 650 G1. Today it decides to not charge the battery anymore.. The pc works fine but the battery does not take the charge. I had the exact same problem 3 months ago. 3 months ago I "solved" just totally disassembly it and then magically it starts to go normaly. Now i tried to unplug the ram modules, the main battery, the bios battery ( doing a clear cmos shorting the 2 pins ). Unplugged everything I press for 30sec the power botton, then plug one ram module, plug the battery and try to restart but same issue, the battery does not take any charge. I notice that the problems comes when I leave the pc in suspension for a long time (about 1 day), it can be the problem?
    Thank you

With the power adapter & battery connected - measure and post the voltage readings of each pin on the battery connector.

The pins on mobo side or the battery pins?

Technically, the voltages should be the same on either side but start with the measurements on the battery contacts.

ok, I'll do it. Should be a win suspension state related problem?

You could also run a diagnostics check on the battery with
            HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows
            https://support.hp.com/us-en/documen...927-1713329-16

Had the same problem on an Elitebook 8570w.
Turned out the battery had a blown fuse and was faulty.

Mesuring the V with the battery connected and the charger plugged in.

The pc does not turn on just with the charger plugged in. The charger works, I tested with a multimeter

And sometimes when I plugged the charger in, i see for a sec the light of the power Button goes on and then turn off.

                  So wish to confirm,

                  1) if battery only - the laptop will not turn on?

                  2) if adapter only ( no battery ), laptop works?

Update. I leave the mobo disconnected and separate from the rest of pc and secondary mb, and after about 1 hour the laptop starts work correctly. Why?? I don't understand the problem!

Share any pics / white silk screen markings on the logic board so we can locate possible schematics for a deeper review. PICs are best.

Remove all power. Locate where the DCIN power connector is located. This trail should follow with 2 mosfet devices and a local charger IC that is used to charge the local battery. You can share pics on this forum to help.

Once the mosfets are found, with NO power (no battery), meter in lowest resistance mode - we can check if the mosfets are defective.

Often the mosfets are 8 leads (4 on each side).

The pinout for the mosfets are usually common - proceed to check the resistance between:

                        source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8)
                        source (1-2-3) & gate (4)
                        gate (4) & drain (5-6-7-8)

We are looking for a low resistance in the readings which means the mosfet is defective / shorted and must be replaced. If you see '1' or 'OL', this means the meter scale is too low so increase till you have a reading.

Share the readings & meter scale for each for the next review.

Do measure both of the front side mosfets. It is very common to have defective mosfets in this region of the logic board.

PS: I am assuming that you are using the official and suitable power adapter for this logic board ? What is the output voltage ?

Do post the markings of the charger IC so we can locate a datasheet (if it exists). Then a reference schematic of the charger IC will educate us on how the logic board is most likely wired for this portion of the design.

Till then, need to cut my overgrown lawn - (not) a favourite past time

Ty for your reply. Now the pc works and it is closed.. If a short is present the laptop should not restart to work properly, isn't it?

Yes, if it is working then leave it be. Did you have to replace / repair any parts to get it to work properly ?

Now the pc starts to fail again.. I have to disassemle the board again. I write here when i do it. But i AM confused. The pc seams to fail randomly.. Now with the charger plugged in the charge start and stops randomly. I test it with another charger and same result. When I oper it 3 days ago the power always went in in the board going out from the current resistor.. If there is a short the pc should starts and work fine even if for a small amount of time?

In my opinion, mosfets @ 1, 2 and 4 have low resistance with the Kohm readings.

They are very inexpensive - consider to replace each and test again.

Post the markings on the topside of each for a review of which devices are on this logic board. Very likely, you can replace with other mosfets.
