    Dell D430-JAU00 LA-3741P fan&display failing

Hello! Need urgent help P.S !
Fixed initially a short on memory bus +1.8V rail by removing on board cells getting hot one by one, till last cell.
    Inserted a DDR2 in SODIMM slot1.
Switched lap, all main voltages are ok, but fan and display are failing.

Voltages measured on FAN & Thermal Sensor IC "EMC4000" are attached.
    Issues found :
    Pin6- FAN_OUT : 0V ?? no spinning.
    Pin30- THERMTRIP_SIO : 0V low, I guess, it should be high i.e +3.3V p.s correct.
    Pin29- HW_LOCK# : 0V. Is it Hardware lock signal ? Should it be high level i.e +3.3V ? p.s correct.
Any idea on next steps to help solving issues would be much appreciated!
    Thank you

Please clarify what "fan and display are failing" mean.
Also THERMTRIP_SIO doesn't have # indicating active low signal, so 0V should be correct (meaning thermal protection not triggered).

what do you mean failing. no fan spin and no display? is there any led that lights as indication the laptop is alive. try to insert known working memory maybe the old one got busted..have you flash the bios..

First, Thanks for your quick follow up.
I mean fan is not spinning and there is no display.

        P.s also confirm : Found Pin29- HW_LOCK# = 0V. Is it "Hardware lock" signal ? and if so, shouldn't it be high level i.e +3.3V ?

As explained, fan is not spinning and no display.
I add, when switched on, led lights for 45" and then off. All main voltages including cpu are correct.

Though, I shunted pin1 of JFAN1 "+FAN1_VOUT" directly to 3.3v run voltage, power led always went off after 45".

I don't see anything that could allow disabling the onboard RAM in the schematics.

Yes, I agree with you, but as far as I understand, the 3 DDR2 (2 on board and 1 SODIMM SLOT1) are supplied in parallel with same voltages and signals, so removing the 2 onboard DDR2 and using only the SODIMM slot 1 DDR2 should be ok. The GMCH will deal with the existing Ram. Please correct.

If BIOS tries to initialize non-existent onboard RAM, POST will fail.

I share your point of view.
Is it possible to edit bios dump and modify it consequently, so as to initialize only the Sodimm slot ?

Well, I can confirm now that's a problem of initializing removed onboard RAM, because after assembling laptop, I noticed that 2 leds were constantly blinking once switched on (Memory fail).

                    Thank you.

Laptop was returned to customer. Thread is to be considered closed.

                      Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

                      The power/battery...

                      Dell 5410 greyed out BT
                      by OntarioTL
Well I've learned something new today. Of all the Dell laptops I've come across I have never seen bluetooth greyed out, and only to learn this is during the build from Dell factory. I've tried to pull the original BIOS and fix with another dell with the same issue on the forums, however the original was not recovered from the forum upgrade so I cannot do a comparison to attempt the fix on my own.

If someone could help me out with this unit and I'll try the next one as so far I have 2 on my desk with this issue. Thanks in advance!

Dell G5 SE 5505 - "Invalid memory installed" after BIOS update.
                      by lalle-
                      Hello!

I have a problem with a Dell G5 SE 5505 laptop that I hope someone can give me a few pointers on.
[OK, it's not really a laptop, I'm running the motherboard on my desktop with only cooling, RAM and an M2 drive attached.]
I had some performance issues, so I decided to update my BIOS from 1.7.0 to the latest version, 1.20.0.
The computer restarted and the update dit not want to continue without a battery connected, even though I used dell's method of bypassing this requirement.
I tried updating to a custom BIOS from Reddit user Satori_Nori https://www...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...
