Compaq CQ58-d33SZ Caps Lock blink 3 times

    Hi friends
I came across this forum searching for a solution for my Compaq CQ58-d33SZ The problem is that there is no picture on the display when i turn it on. It turns on and the Caps Lock blinks 3 times then a pause and again and so on. I found the post codes meaning and it says bad RAM so i change couple of sticks but it did not help. Next i disassembled it and measured the voltages on the board. The 3.3v, 5v and 19v are all present. I did not find a bad capacitor as i could measured. Somewhere i read that it might be corrupted BIOS and tried to restore it via usb stick holding Windows key and B but nothing happens. So here i am asking for your help, if anyone of you can help me it will mean a lot.
    This is the board

I replaced the memory but the dame problem, i tried 1333mhz DDR3 and 1666mhz DDR3 as 1066mhz is not supported.

Take a look at the ram voltage. Should be 1.35V.
        I bet it is missing.

Check if you do have any shorted to ground capacitor or mosfet on the ram power line

I could not measure 1.35v near the ram, al the capacitors have 1.49v and the coil near the ram slots has 1.06v
The highlighted capacitor on the image are not shorted
The second pin on the ram slots has 0.8v

Where should teh 1.35v be present?

Does this board support DDR3L or DDR3 ?
                    1.35V would be for DDR3L
                    1.5V for DDR3

You measured 1.49V at the big caps on the ram slots.
This is most likely the 1.5V rail for the ram which is fine.

                    1.06V is for something else.

How can you tell that this cap is shorted?
The second pin on the ram slots has 0.8V.. What do you mean ?

Yes the board supports DDR3 not DDR3L so the 1.49v is fine then
I removed the capacitor then there was no short between the pins on the board, when i put it back it is shorted.
I read somewhere that the second pin on the ram slot should have 0.8v that is why i measured it, i don't know if that is correct.

Try to get a schematic/boardview for the board. Randomly ripping components off won't help at all. I highly doubt that it is a bios failure.

Does the cpu/chipset get warm when it is on?
Did you measure the desoldered cap?

                              For standard DDR3, VDDQ = 1.5V, VTT = 0.75V
HP shows the same code for missing RAM and RAM test error.
Inspect for physical damage in RAM slot and CPU socket, and clean with contact cleaner. Try another CPU if possible.
Could be a corrupt BIOS, but it's not common for it to fail that way.

I searched here for schematics but there is none for this board, there are only for amd platform
I just found this video on youtube with the same board as mine but it has another problem

I son't have osciloscop to measure the capacitor i removed, just a multimeter

As i could see there is no physical damage neither on the spu socket or the ram slots, the cpu does not have bent pins either.
I have not tried another CPU though i cleaned the one i have and the socket, also cleaned the ram slots. I will try to find another cpu and give it a try

The cpu warms up and the fan starts spinning, when cooled off it stops, and so on. It is not overheating

What CPU and RAM is in the laptop?

Be aware that the HM70 Express chipset in your laptop only supports following CPUs (i3, i5, i7 will shutdown after 30 mins or don't work at all):

                                      Intel Mobile Celeron Dual-Core
                                      1000M

                                      1037U

                                      Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile

Be aware that the HM70 Express chipset in your laptop only supports following CPUs (i3, i5, i7 will shutdown after 30 mins or don't work at all):

                                        Intel Mobile Celeron Dual-Core
                                        1000M

Yes that's right, i checked that too but i do not have any spare cpu from the list. Now it has Celeron 1000m which came with it.

I am sitting with a very similar issue.

Basically, had a probook that worked, gave it to someone, they returned it DOA. what the heck happened, I have no idea.

Caps and num lock blink 4 times, as per HP, thats a board failure. I am very new to this, so perhaps I should be posting a new thread?

Anyway, I resoldered the bios chip on after trying EVERYTHING else including reseating ram, cpu etc.

Multimeter shows 19.5V on power, so I presume thats correct. Fan spins, no display. No post. Bios chip looks good from what I can tell just not sure how...

                                          Hello everyone.

This is my development machine. I've been using it since two years and half without any problem except sometimes it wouldn't wake up from sleep.
Lately the issue became more frequent and powering it up would take few seconds to show the POST screen.
Then the computer refuses to power on at all. Now only the caps lock button flashes 7 times then stops. The charging light is always on whenever a power source is connected (battery or charger).
I tried long pressing on the power button, after several seconds it would go off then when the button is released...

                                          Hi,
I'm facing this issue since this morning. When I try to power it on, the CAPS lock light flashes 7 times (or 6 if not counting the first one when the power button is pressed). The charging light is always on as if the laptop was connected to the charger. The issues started gradually where it would flash the light but after trying multiple time it would power on. I tried to open it and I noticed one coil "1R0 2127" gets hot when the charger is connected. Note: the charging light directly comes on when the battery is connected or the charger is connected.

I have hp 15-ac126tu And after turning on caps lock blink 3 times and repeat after a while. On hp website i can read that this is ram problem so i changed the ram modules for surely working ones and still no results - 3 blinks anyway.
This laptop use ddr3l but i even checked the normal ddr3 and same result.
All voltages are present, screen only goes black(polarization).
I've tried to reprogram bios too, same result.
Under the thermal cam i can see that the cpu have hot spot, should i be sure that this is problem with this hybrid cpu/pch?
                                          Cpu coil is around 16-20...

Hi guys, I have an HP model 15s-eq1040nl main DAOP5FMB6A0 REV:A with a caps/lock 5 long 3 short led flashing problem, I tried to remove the battery and program a new bios and when I restarted it immediately worked correctly, the pc turned on and loaded the operating system.
As soon as I turned off the pc and connected the battery, the problem reappeared... caps/lock 5 long 3 short led flashing again!
the battery was dead, i charged it and it works fine, but the pc won't turn on again.
What do you recommend me? Do I have to redo the bios or is there anything else to check?...
