Yes, that is the question. Why did Q9806 go bad? I asked Hijo to measure the output of Q9806 to ground to make sure it is not shorted as perhaps one of the ICs that this goes directly too has shorted out. Or Q9806 just gave up the ghost and nothing else is bad. I ask Hijo to turn off the unit and measure using the black/negative probe on the output of Q9806 and the red/positive probe on gnd. so as not to measure through the protection resistor of Q9806.

(on position 2000 on ohmmètre (200/2000/20K/200K/2000K))
      for Q9806 I have
      377 Ohms on Pin: 1,2,5,6 (PPBUS_S0_LCDBKLT_PWR)
      378 Ohms on Pin: 4 (PPBUS_S0_LCDBKLT_FUSED)
      0 Ohms on pin: 3 (PPBUS_S0_LCDBKLT_EN_DIV)

Can you confirm that i should take measure without power for Ohms ?

Thanks you for your investigation, it's very appreciated

Can you advise me for a solder station ?

I have seen this one but it's little bit too expensive for begining i think..

Thank u for your explanation Keeney, i understand little bit more how that works !

ok u dont have cpu working. maybe that is causing backlight not turning on:

u7100 pin 20 voltage ? also pin 47 and 48 1 and 44 (all voltage on running pc)

Just to clarify you should never measure ohms with the unit on. When you say O ohms on pin 3 do you mean infinite ohms or do you mean it is shorted to ground and therefore it is 0.0 Ohms. You should be on the 200 ohm scale. I will be out for a little while, but will look at the data you supplied when I come back

I take it that when you talk about probe points they are just on the board as I have done a complete search of the schematic and they do not show up. So can you verify one more time the voltages on Q9806 on all the pins. With voltages measurement black/negative probe goes on ground. Also, with "power off" take a Ohm measurement on the 200 scale with red/ positive probe on pin 3 of Q9806 and black/negative probe on Ground. This reading should be high. If you can take all the reading right on Q9806, but do not short out the other pin when doing voltage reading.

Nice one, Pin20 was corroded with R7120. I have clean this space with 94°Alcohol and now we can see the pin20 and R7120 sux. (pic attached)
Edit: I've just broke R7120 by trying take continuity on it. I'm gonna wait to receive precision probes i have order, to take voltage, because the space between the elements is very small.

I would say 0.00 Ohm, not infinite.
I think my 2000 scale is your 200 scale, in the manual i read resolution per range and resolution of 200 is 0.1

So your 2000 scale is the lowest scale you have? Having this shorted to ground does not make a lot of sense. Try your ohm meter leads one way and then the other. You had said before that pin 3 on Q9806 had 9.69 volt on it. If it was shorted to ground there should be 0 volts on pin three. Also, remember to turn unit off when you are reading OHMs.

I'm sorry but i have searched and have find nothing where i say Q9806 have 9.69V on pin3.

The above is from post 34. R9809 pin1 connects directly Q9806 pin3. This is where you read the voltage. The fuse going into Q9806 is where the 12.6 volts is you had read. If R9809 pin 1, the 147K ohm resistor, is Ohming out to ground with a direct short then the reading would be 0 volts.

Any time one is looking for a short you need to set to the lowest scale to get the lowest reading. As you increase your scale the lower digits shift upward to compensate for the higher readings. So say the allowable error of reading on the meter say is 1%, on the 200 scale that would be 2, on the 2000 that would be 20.

Also one could get confused when reading 1 on the higher scale instead of 1 it may actually be 1K ohm.

Does anyone know the exact startup sequence on this computer as it would be extremely helpful in troubleshooting and for others with a problem on Macpro Apple Computer 2009. Otherwise we will be poking around until we figure it out.

What I find interesting is P5VS0_SS and P5VS3_SS only appear on page 3 and seem to go nowhere when I do a search for them. These points affect Q7900 and Q7920

                                      S0_PWR_PGOOD: 0.00V on Probe 228

U7201 pwr pgood page 64 should be high if both voltages are with in tolerance. Attached is data sheet.

So this is another problem. I would first verify the previous problem with Q9806 before I proceed to this.

                                        Hi Keeney123, dellxps15 and ibrahim03.

First i would thank you guy for the time you have passed on my problem. This forum like to be a very good place to be.

Secondly, i would sorry myself because i'm gonna can't continue this repair right now.
I am unemployed for 1 year already and I did not know at all what to look for work. This repair experience opened my eyes to the world of electronics and I now know what to get me for the future.

                                        For that, thank you!

I would return in a few times on this forum but I have to save money to buy a Reworkstation and some tools to start some SMD soldering experience.

However, I bought a used motherboard and my new mac works wonderfully!

Glad I could help you. Good luck on you career. You can always come back to your motherboard at a later time or not. Hope you find work soon as it is no good to be out of work.

                                            Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

I am looking at an A2337 and found this for the order of power rails and what they do. Can this be confirmed before I dive into hunting down power rails that do not exist or are not neccisary?
                                            • PPBUS_G3H (12.6V-12.8V)
                                              • This is the main power rail that supplies power to the entire system. Check this rail first, as it must be present for other power rails to work.
                                            • PP3V42_G3H (3.42V)
                                              • This power rail is derived from PPBUS_G3H and is used to power the SMC (System Management Controller) and other essential circuits. It should be present if PPBUS_G3H is working correctly.

I’m working on one macbook air 15” m2 that was water damaged.

keyboard, lcd, microphone connectors were damaged so i’ve replaced all of them and without screen connected macbook worked fine. Keyboard &trackpad and also lid sensor was working fine.

i’ve put macbook in shelf and order new screen so i can fully repair it.

Now i got the screen and macbook stays at 5v 0a.

i’ve tried if it’s not in DFU with another macbook but it’s not detected at all.

i don’t have schematics so i don’t know where to start can someone help me?...

                                            Hello guys,

I'm learning about logic board (motherboards) repairs. I don't do repairs professionally, but I manage from time to time to repair something for my family and friends.

What caught my attention is this visual inspection guide written by Louis Rossmann. It seems that corosion on probe points on the motherboard can "kill" Macbook. https://wiki2.rossmanngroup.com/inde...ual_inspection
I wonder how corrosion cause this. If there is a track that has a probe point made on it and corrosion is build up on that place, does this means...
