Sorry, I meant PPVCC_S0_CPU which is produced by those two chips and is low at 0.8V, not the video related power rails! I have edited my initial response to reflect this. However, Mon you mentioned the voltages being monitored seem okay, so I will progress with measuring the remaining rails in the power sequence and see if there are any issues with those.... -
I see, thanks Mon. I'm now focusing on the CPU rails that are presenting 0V. In light of PPVCC_S0_CPU being 0.8V and being produced by U7210 and U7210 I'm Currently reviewing the datasheet for those chips to see if there are any issues with those....Last edited by Flasman90; 09-02-2025, 12:00 PM. Macbook Pro A2289 - 820-01987 - Low ALL_SYS_PWRGD
Hi all, I'm working on an an A2289 which had a previous spill that was repaired. Now upon turning on the only signs of life are the trackpad and fans spinning. I succesfully performed a DFU restore, but after completion it did not boot into recovery mode and display still is not turning on (It didnt turn on during the DFU restore, as I believe you would expect to see the apple logo at some point?).
I have removed the logic board as well as the usb-c charging port and plugged the charger in and taken the following readings, which show that ALL_SYS_PWRGD is low at 1.78V. I took measurements... -
I have now managed to perform a DFU restore on the laptop. However, there still doesn't seem to be any effect. The device still boots to a black screen, with no caps lock light when pressed. I have tried to boot into OS recovery mode after the DFU restore, but that doesn't seem to work!
Any advice on how to progress from here would be greatly appreciated.Leave a comment:

Macbook Pro DFU Restore Issues
I have a 2020 Macbook Pro A2289 and after many attempts managed to get it into DFU mode, using my older 2017 A1706 Macbook Pro (Running Ventura 13.7.8). However, when attempting 'Restore', it fails at step 4 of 4, showing the following error:
- "The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg (Generic error)) [AMRestoreErrorDomain – 0xA (10)]
- "The system cannot be restored on this device. Failed to create new state machine for restore [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore - 0xFB1 (4017)]

Hi having similar issues with a similar A2289 model (661-14770). Does it really need a charged battery to boot? Mine doesn't seem to turn on using battery alone, and only turns on with charger connected.
I just want to clarify on your point, as mine only has the trackpad and fans working when I press the power button. Are you saying that to have it actually boot to the login screen, it would need a charged battery?...Leave a comment:

Macbook Pro A2289 MXK62LL/A (661-14770) - No Startup
Hi everyone - first time poster on here looking to embark on my first repair! Thank you in advance for any help!
My Macbook only turns on when the charger is plugged in and only the trackpad and fans show signs of life. The display, caps lock light and touchbar do not turn on. There was previous liquid damage to the touchbar but after cleaning and drying the laptop was operational for a year without any issues. There doesn't seem to be any sign of liquid damage to the board, at present.
