[Idea] Basic guide for troubleshooting laptop mainboards

One thing i would like to see in this section would be a guide to basic troubleshooting and checking of laptop mainboards, so we can avoid the "check this and that and that" posts that inevitably occur whenever a problem that has been discussed before, pops up again.

I would also like to limit this guide to be useful with basic tools that every hobbyist is likely to have, a basic multimeter and an adjustable power supply.

For example, let's take the basic symptom of "powers up, no video". Is there hard drive activity? If the system runs the hard drive and seems to boot, reball/replace GPU. If the system does not attempt to boot, reball/replace Northbridge (or PCH/FCH). You can also use a bootable USB drive if the system came in without HDD, the behavior will be the same.

I'm too lazy to add more. Please add your suggestions here.

i can`t say i reball but i can say reflow.

when do i reflow? how do i know i need to reflow ? is it ram problem, cpu?

    ok let`s see!
this is for me the most used methode not to waste my time for nothing, because i use to do stuff for nothing and it was something small like dust on memory socket and did a big job for 0.

95% of cases from reflow i power up the notebook rap it up in a blanket.

15 min run ; shutdown and power up instant.

please don't laugh at me because it made my life much easier.

While the method is weird its indeed far easier to do then to open it up heat up with a fan or SMD station. So I can assure that this trick is very good and fast (though looking back at the dv series that one didn't cut it for me had to to full reflows to make them boot at all).
I am more curious how to determine when to reflash the bios (I know its easy to get it off save the old dump and put in a new), but that requires also some time.

to test if ic have cracked balls just heat it up to 100c. thats the temp for removing silicone that holds ic. no need to reflow and stressing ic with it

There are general guides, is that interesting to post here?
Or you really want to make your own?

ASUS TUF X570-PLUS doesn't power on: no VRM_EN signal.
            by ShadowAi
Hello, I have an issue with the motherboard. Specifically, it doesn't power on, more precisely, the POST initialization doesn't occur.

Let me start from the beginning, the motherboard suddenly stopped working one day. There are no beep signals from the speaker, and the debug LEDs are not lighting up. After inspecting it under a microscope and using thermal imaging, I didn't find anything that could be damaged.

After that, I began voltage measurements, in which I noticed the absence of VDDQ, VDDP, VTT, and VPP lines. Later, I checked if there is an EN state on these lines,...

Samsung UN40H5003 boot loop every ~8 seconds
            by eigma
Hi, I rescued a Samsung UN40H5003AF (H = 2014 FHD) from the curb. Symptoms are: standby (red) light comes on, stays on for 8 seconds, flickers off, then comes back on, and the cycle continues.

            Service manual: https://www.electronica-pt.com/esque...is-u8la-71272/

SMPS board: checked voltages, all seem normal (A13V = 12.8V, UD = 3.3V, PWM_BLU = 0.77V, PS_OnOff = 5.5V). Remove 10p cable to main board -> backlight comes on. I think this means SMPS board and backlight are good.

practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards
            by blues_spirit
            Hello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I...

Troubleshooting a Toshiba LCD TV. Model 40AV700E
            by Wodger
            Hi everyone,

Short story, I was asked to look at this TV by a close friend. Originally, the TV screen would go off after a random amount of time, unplugging it from the wall for a while and then powering on again usually would bring it back to life. Here in the Philippines, power interruptions are regular. Having experienced a similar state with my LCD monitor for PC (blown caps), I had a look at the power board - 2 caps were bulged and I replaced all.

The TV apparently worked for a while (few days) then it started acting up again. On another inspection, everything looked...
