Hp 630 Core duo ddr3 no post annymore

hi, i got this laptop with no display.

it has the chicago board core duo version with ddr3.

i have changed the intel nortgbridge with integrated vga in it, and after put this new bga, pc boot telling me some cmos error found ( i forgot to connect the 3v battery for testing).

i thought it was a cmos battery message error, so today i put almost all together and when i go for boot, it give me this message and then no more display come.

i think it was some bios, but the only chip i can find is ui3 that is a winbond w25q16bv (16mbit chip).

on the hp site there are 2x4mb and 1x 2mb inside the bios hp exe. tried with one 4mb version but no more Ec light.

on other thread i found ec bios dump for the hp 630. flashed it to that ui3 and now light comes on, but if i press power botton pc start blinking and no display.

where is located the bios chip ? really cant find it in that mainboard.

is ui3 all in one ?

any help would be great , as that notebook after rework started with these cmos error, but i was able to get display.

the wodoo dolls inside notebooks saga continues...

if you still have old dump of original bios load it to any hex editor and scroll at the end of file and you should see something like

what you need is $BIDXXXXX that is board ID and afterwards is a version of bios

i have prepared (decrypted and splitted) main bios and ec for all 3 versions of bios for 3 versions of matherboard put in this laptop

          hope it helps
and you need to rebuild dmi data

          edit:
by looking at your post again, you have w25q16bv (16mbit chip) = 2mb, so your board id should be BID03676 and eprom 2mb... flash that file first

          hope it works

that was the bios inside my hard disk folder. 3676.

maybe i can try with another bios chip ? i have sst 16mbit bios new...

            if i look here http://forum.thebgareworkmachine.com...ic.php?f=8&t=5

mine is w25q16bv, similar to W25Q16VS
and i have new SST25VF016B chip.

all this however make me think rework gone wrong..

have you verified after writing to eeprom that its written good? sometimes eproms are faulty, sometimes chips are specific and do not work as it should
i have a lot of troubles with 25x16 but 25q16 works always on my both programmers

and yes, that sst should work too

bad bga rework cannot be excluded also, dono how to check that :/

i dont understand why after rework, pc just post fine to screen warning on cmos factory reset needed. and i power it off as i got screen and bga was fine. tried to boot 3 times and all 3 times i got the warning logo, but pc was alive. last time i tried to power it on, it give that cmos error and i let it do what it wanted to do, so pc restarted and from now going on, no more post to screen or hp logo...

ps: im going to try this other bios chip

ps: ofcourse after i write bios, programmer verify tell me all was perfect.

i,ve changed bios chip, but it's all the same. pc power on, then off. then on again and caps lock start blink continuosly.

cpu is cold and didnt warm up even if voltage are present.

Looks like the NB is either bad or it hasn't soldered properly. I've stumbled upon that a couple times too. It runs after you rework it while the board is still warm, then after it cools down it no longer works. It's always BGA related.

PS: pc was booting for one day. so i suppose it's not a cool down.

cant edit, but i cheked all chipset voltage and all were ok.

only thing i notice is that hdd doesnt spin when i power pc on. pc stay on but no hdd spinning.

plus there were 2 resistor down chipset tht moved a bit because of the thermocouple. put them back in place in the hope of a working laptop but still the same.

all voltage present at coils, but no hard disk spin and no post. only continuous blinking caps lock

today i check rsmrst, plt_rst, h_pwrgood and all are ok.... 3.3 volt on each of this... so it it a bad nb-gpu chip ?

this laptop has intel chip with integrated intel vga.

could it be a bad kb controller ?

i checked also all voltage and all are present.

is the CPU still cold? could also be the CPU controller (most ISL) or near the CPU controller the smd (resistors).

I had this problem on Samsung i5 Mainboard...

Cold CPU's most failure on Northbridge, BAD caps, broken CPU controller, BIOS,

Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                                          Some issues
                                          A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                                          Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

                                          Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

                                          Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...
