HP 635 AMD continuous restarting now 1 blink

Have this one in, and it already pissed me off to no avail. It's got a soldered-on APU, AMD E-450.

When it came in it would just reboot by itself every 10-20 seconds. I reballed the APU - same behavior. I then reballed the only other chipset on the board - what AMD calls the "FCH". It worked and stayed on no problem.

I assembled the notebook and stupor. It did not work anymore, caps lock blinked 1 time, then long pause, then blinked again, which 1 blink is "CPU error" according to HP, but it's never caused by the CPU in my experience. Got it to power on once more, then it just did this 1 blink and that's it, that's all it does now.

Took the board apart again and reflowed both chipsets one more time. Absolutely no change. This is ridiculous...

Board is "chicago_br_hpc mv_mb_v2". I could not find a schematic for it, if you have one, please share. Also a BIOS dump would be nice, as i only found it on a Chinese website.

I thought so as well. I can buy the FCH locally, but at around the same price i can get a board with water damage to harvest for parts. What would you choose?

Why do people believe after reball everything just will work fine?

Because most of the times it does.

The percentage of actual bad BGAs is low compared to the percentage of poor quality boards, poor quality solder, and of course improper operating conditions. That excluding the whole nvidia thing, of course...

For example with the RS880M/HD4250, i've done at least a couple dozen of them, and i've only found TWO bad chips so far. Both due to gross overheating.

The FCH chipset was out of stock locally, but i managed to source an identical board with liquid damage (coffee) for $14. Actually, i got the whole bottom case, palmrest in good shape, heatsink and fan, keyboard with 1 missing key, speakers, and battery along with it! No repairs had been attempted on this board however i found many shorts, so i did not try repairing it. I lifted the FCH chipset off this board, reballed it and soldered it on the first board (the one with 1 blink and no display).

She's up and running now. The FCH replacement fixed it.

I'm installing Windows on it atm, will be back with pics.

Nope, that's the Intel version. This one is with AMD APU soldered onto the board.

Pics or it didn't happen. The first pic with the FCH chipset is after reballing the original one, i couldn't be bothered to fill up the space with those pics too - since it didn't work. Notice the before-last pic, look closely and you will see a different datecode on the FCH, it's the one i pulled from this other board that i bought. And hey, what do you know, it works.

Thank you. Now that i look closely at that pic i pointed out above - that's nicely roasted coffee all around the FCH die. Yeah that coffee spill on the donor board was pretty serious. Couldn't be arsed cleaning it all off - the contact side is all that matters.

                        Eheheh xD

And when the FCH will warm up, maybe there will be that little coffee aroma getting out of it LOL Seems good to me!

Just kidding, really nice skill on troubleshoot and reballing technique

                        Keep up the good work!

I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

I write this to maybe help another with this TV.

So I aquired this TV a 2023 model. It started the 2 blink reboot problem which indicates bad panel. It was still under warranty and the repair man came by.

The Samsung repairman brought a brand new panel and switched my original boards to the new panel. The new panel then had the 2 blink error code. The repair guy said he has seen this and the MAIN board on this model will cause the 2 blink. He then replaced the main/power board (they are both connected) and put it back onto my original panel. Voila it worked.

I'm new here and trying to repair my Panasonic TX-P50V10E plasma TV, which is currently showing the 6 red blink error code.

I had ordered a replacement ss board but somehow the tv started working again and i never used the board. Now a week ago my tv flickered and shut off at random and gave the 8 blink error code. The same issue it had all those years ago. The only difference this time is that over the last few months there has been some purple and green tinge that comes and goes in more solid colors such as white.

Anyway i checked all the screws and replaced the ss board with a known good one and still got 8 blinks. I saw a...
