MacBook A1708 820-00840-a speaker making strange noises

    Hi all,

i fixed a A1708 which was not working. Not its booting but the left speaker is making buzzing and sizzling noises. I added a short video to show it.

I already reflowed the audio codec chips but that didn't help. Any ideas what to do?

Sounds like your fan is rubbing. Disconnect the fan connector and test again without the right side fan running.

      Hello mon2,

will try it later but the sound comes right away when i Start the MacBook and doesn't come with speaker FLEX disconnected.

Little update here. I found a short a U6460 removed the chip and it was gone. After replacing it with a donor i also found a short at U6440. Same game and now all shorts are gone and 1,8v are present but i still get no sound but the noises stopped. I also tried PRAM reset without any success.
So maybe any other ideas? The fan is not the cause of any problem.

U6440 is a dainty WLCSP package. Soldering ok? Remove all power. Measure the ferrite bead L6440 in DIODE mode. Red meter probe to ground. Black meter probe on L6440.

Repeat for L6441. Suggest to disconnect the speaker so that we get a measurement of the amplifier chip. You should have a voltage reading in diode mode. If OL, then the amplifier output is disconnected.

            L6440 and L6441 both show 0,6V.
            L6460 and L6461 also 0,6V.
I reballed U6440 and U6460 and soldering back went without any problems.

At this point, do you have any sounds working from either speaker?

Review, U6460, U6440, U6420, U6400 which are the audio amps.

Also of importance is the audio codec @ U6200 which converts the audio streams for the logic board.

Do check if the s/w is able to see this audio device in the hardware. BTW - are you able to hear any sounds with a headphone? BLE headphones? Assuming this to be ok.

Macbook Air a1932 only right speaker working
                by obelix24
I just got one macbook air a1932 that is fullu working (no signs of liquid damage but there is strange issue that only right speaker is working (that one that is connected directly to audio board)
the other one is not working at all.

i've tried to replace left speaker 3x and still no sound, i've also replaced audio board but still the same.

Do you know what can cause this issue ?

MacBook Pro 2019 820-01700 Speaker amp issue.
                by Gueric
I have this MacBook Pro on my bench that I have already fixed, hard short on a SSD rail, but it also has another issue. the right speaker sound is either earrape, muffled or absent. Left one works perfect. I have tried replacing it, nothing changed so I'm pretty sure the issue is either motherboard related or maybe software but I doubt that.

I don't how to troubleshoot speakers. Any help would be very much appreciated.

A refurbisher and a repair shop have already been inside the laptop but I'm pretty sure none of them tried to do any soldering on the board.

MacBook Pro A1708 820-00840 stuck @ 5V, no power, no charging
                by EpicFix
Hey guys, I need a little help here. I have a MacBook Pro A1708 820-00840 stuck @ 5V. Started off affecting just one port but now it's affecting both. Both CD3215 ics were replaced but the issue remains. One port does a loop and the other stays at a constant 5V. Both CD3215 have 3V incoming. I checked for PP3V3_G3H @ R3000, C3100 and C3108, R3001, C3200 and C3208. The weird thing is though that the ammeter shows the current draw (5V @ 0.5A) coming out from the port as opposed to it going in. Any ideas on helping me fix this?

                Hi everybody

                I have Macbook A1708 820-00840
It goes through all steps to start
exclude last steps power PPVCCCPU_S0G and PPVCCGT_S0G

                Besides, no exchange on
                CPU_VIDSCLK
                CPU_VIDSOUT

                However CPU_PWRGD is OK
                CPU_PROCHOT is down.

I replaced SPI dump from here:

                Unfortunately did't help me.
