Hello, I'm repairing a 2008 MacBook 13 inch Intel core 2 duo 2.4 GHz with an intermittent backlight. It will only stay lit up if you have the brightness at one setting above zero. If you go higher than one, you have to zero it out then set back to one. It will actually go full brightness, but only for a second. There's also been times where it stays bright for 30 minutes. Sometimes it will flicker and fade out. At first I thought it would be the inverter. I swapped in a new one with the same results. This notebook is too old to have to invest in a new lcd or trying to change the ccfl, so I'm hoping it's a faulty/worn inverter cable. Anyone else seen this?

Re: 2008 MacBook backlight only works on lowest brightness setting
hi, once i had a white macbook with a turning off backlight. asfter change the inverter, it will turn backlight on for soem seconds and then off. i had to replace the ccfl lamps to make it work correctly. to check that the ccfl were faulty i used another lcd screen and connected onlythe inverter cable to it to see it it stay on without stutting down the lamps. (it was a 15.4 inch instead of the 13.3 but for test was ok).
so if you have any other lcd screen with 1 lamp only (if i remember good) then u can make that try. -
Re: 2008 MacBook backlight only works on lowest brightness setting
Customer has decided to buy a new notebook, probably a much cheaper Windows version. I see his point. It's a 2008 with 2007 components inside and it's 2014, so 7-8 years old. After continued testing this morning the lcd flashes once at boot and then there is no backlight or video data. I have too much time invested already.
Thank you for your input guys.Comment

by rouninHi everyone,
I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.
🛠 Original Issue
The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.
I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

by CAPTGENEI have similar a similar issue. My A2179 Macbook Air turns ON and works normally with a battery but it is not charging. With the USC-C alone it takes 20V but only 100mA, PPBUS is 12.3Volts, and wont turn ON.
I replaced U7000 twice with the same result. not charging!

by envymHi everyone!
I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.
I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...06-27-2025, 08:54 AM -
by XiranHello again!
I have a macbook pro a1502, which works without problems, the problem comes when I turn it off completely, and try to turn it on, the only way is to disconnect the battery and charger, I reconnect the battery and the charger, and only then does it turn on. I already reset the smc, but the fault persists... - Loading...
