Thank you very much philsurmac! I also believe that these files should be shared freely. I support the right to repair. Cheers.

  • Re: Butane pen torches?

Believe it or not, the cheapest cans of butane actually seem to burn cleaner than the expensive ones. Do not buy Ronson or Bernzomatic brands of fuel. They are too pricey and I have found that both of them do not really burn clean and can clog up the valves and nozzles. My bet is they both have additives in the fuel. I have the best luck with the big cans of the cheap stuff sold at 7-Eleven for $3.99. You also get about 2 1/2 times the fuel for half the price of that Ronson garbage.

  • Re: 2008 MacBook backlight only works on lowest brightness setting

Customer has decided to buy a new notebook, probably a much cheaper Windows version. I see his point. It's a 2008 with 2007 components inside and it's 2014, so 7-8 years old. After continued testing this morning the lcd flashes once at boot and then there is no backlight or video data. I have too much time invested already.

Thank you for your input guys.

  • 2008 MacBook backlight only works on lowest brightness setting

Hello, I'm repairing a 2008 MacBook 13 inch Intel core 2 duo 2.4 GHz with an intermittent backlight. It will only stay lit up if you have the brightness at one setting above zero. If you go higher than one, you have to zero it out then set back to one. It will actually go full brightness, but only for a second. There's also been times where it stays bright for 30 minutes. Sometimes it will flicker and fade out. At first I thought it would be the inverter. I swapped in a new one with the same results. This notebook is too old to have to invest in a new lcd or trying to change the ccfl, so I'm hoping...

    Bluestone,

I've been a computer tech for over 10 years. I'm also a professional guitarist and dabble in electronics. I have always repaired my own gear as well as building guitar effects and other electronics projects. My computer tech courses only covered basic electronics. I do have tons of experience and success in reviving dead pc motherboards, hot-swapping and re-flashing bios chips and have been certified by different oems as an authorized repair tech. Now when it comes to laptops, I've repaired hundreds...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Yup...I'm kinda new around here. I've been to this site many times and decided it's time to join. This is definitely one of the very best forum sites geared towards techies.

I'm a computer tech/electronics hobbyist/professional guitarist from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Keep up the great work! I've been recapping like crazy when customers actually listen to the whole bad cap story and I often refer them to badcaps.net as I consider it to be the number 1 trusted source for the real info surrounding...

  • Need help with Toshiba C650-034 (PSC12C-03403L) dead!!!

Hey boys....my situation is classic. I was on the phone to a Toshiba tech to kill the power on password that my brilliant son created after smoking pot with his friends. He couldn't remember it right after doing it. So...it was 2 days past warranty. Toshiba "tech" walked me thru shorting several pads...until...he realized he was looking at the wrong motherboard!!! He then apologized and said he wasn't gonna help any further. I tried to talk him into replacing my board. He quickly ended the call. What a jerk!!!

So I have no power, no leds, no action. Where should I start,...
