Macbook Pro 14 2021 - A2442 - 820-02098-A - Internal display not turning on but MacOS working good

    Dear collegues,
the owner of this machine brought it to me saying that suddenly one day the display didn't turn on anymore, he tought that all the machine was damaged but it turned out that the MacOS starts good and stays on, and that connecting it to an external display it works without problems.
If you take a look into general settings, you can also see that the internal retina display is recognized as connected by the main board but for an unknown reason it doesn't turn it on.
I've tried to put a bright light towards the screen but I can't see anything, any shadows or apple signs during startup, so it seems that the matrix is not even driven.
I've found schematics and boardview of this board (820-02098-A) but it's difficult to diagnose and also to take measures because the main video signals are in the internal part close to the keyboard :/
The board is completely clean, no traces of liquids, no oxydizations anywhere, no burned components, the external chassis is clean and has no signs of hits or scratches, and the owner said that it wasn't exposed to heat or cold or water, but always used in his studio.
Sandly I have no other similar displays to try on, nor other similar mainboards, so I have to find the fault on this machine itself.
I've read that the LID sensor is something special on these machines and it has communication with CPU which needs UR330 outputs to control TP/KB, internal video and digital microphone, and if you change it you have to program and calibrate it :o
I've tried detaching the lid sensor but the behaviour is the same (I know that it can't prove anything because maybe I need a completely working sensor programmed for this mainboard to have a proof).
Some of you have had similar problems on a similar machine or can point me to a direction?

    Thank you for your time

Does the external screen turn off if you close the display lid assembly? Vice versa - if you open the display lid assembly, does the external screen turn ON ?

No, the external display is not affected in any way byt the closing of the lid assembly. both if the sensor is connected and if it is disconnected, the external display remains always on.
Do you think that a revive in DFU mode could lead to a solution?

        Certainly do try a DFU.

          Hi,
after many days I've back up the ssd and made firstly a Revive then a Restore of all the system , the operations completed successfully without errors but still the display doesn't come on...
Connecting to an external hdmi monitor, graphic is clear, no problems or glitches, and still in general settings I can see both monitors connected to the system, the external tv and the internal Liquid Retina XDR.
When I close the lid, in general settings internal display fades out and the external tv is still there.
Strangely, I'v disconnected the three flat cables that go to the internal display (JP600, JP400 and JP900) and , from external monitor, MacOS still does see the internal display as connected
Can someone shade a light about this or what to do further?
Can I make some measurements or tests on the internal display or the mainboard before buuying a new one (I know that I will loose True Tone with the new one...)?
          Thanks

            Macbook Pro 14 2021 - A2442 - 820-02098-A not turning on 5v fluctuation
            by Rickkap
I would like some help with this MacBook if possible. It came in with not turning on and the Magsafe light was off. After inspecting the logicboard i cannot find any liquid damage and also no burnt or shorted components.
took some measurement and i can see i have fluctuation on PP3V3_S2 and also PP5V_S2_MAIN amongst other rails. Using the thermal camera RC282 & RC283 were pulsing, but after removing these it was still the same.

I then did some investigation into why the rails were pulsing and noticed that P5VS2_PWR_EN (comes from U8100) is also doing the same thing.....

MacBook Pro 16" (2019) A2141: power consumption? Dead GPU? MacOS not installing
            by tomtom67
A friend brought his fresh-from-ebay macbook pro A2141 after he failed replacement keyboard plugging.
I fixed all the little problems he introduced.

I am unable to install macOS to this device. Both Sequoia and Catalina (from Internet Recovery) start to install, but after ~2-5 minutes into the installation the macbook does a hard restart (max fan spin for a split second, then reboot without chime).

I noticed what I think is a very high power consumption, like 20V/1.7A when activating WiFi for internet recovery, and more like 20V/3.7-4.1A while downloading the recovery...

Macbook A2442 no display board 820-02098
            by dbuergi
            Hi all,

i got a Macbook A2442 which statrts normal but is not showing any picture. Using an external monitor works fine. After opening the Macbook i found a dried up line of liquid damage around CN979, RD503, and UP730. I cleaned up everything and also unsoldered the chips to clean the pads. There were no shorts before but i still don't have any picture. Sometimes you can see a glimpse of light in the middle of the display.
So before i change the whole display i want to make sure that it's not any issue with the logicboard. So any ideas what i can check next?...

MacBook A2442 not powering on – suspecting CD3217, but replacement didn’t help
            by TechSplendid
            Hi All,

I'm working on a MacBook Pro A2442 (14", 2021) that's not powering on. On two out of three USB-C ports, I get 5V and the current briefly ramps up to around 0.210A before dropping to 0.036A. On the third port (JF600), I only get 0.0045A and it stays there.

Initially, I suspected a faulty CD3217 on that port, especially since I noticed signs of previous liquid damage near the JF600 USB connector. I replaced the CD3217 with an UF400 (from an A2442 donor board from the same location). According to the supplier, this should be a compatible version, but the behavior...
