how to check if xtal is working?

    Hello.
I try to check some xtals wit my cheap osciloscope but i never get any good readings even when i measure working board.
with my osciloscope i generated 32kh signal and can be easily check. but on xtals measure only some voltage

    How u measure it?

It isn't possible. The crystal should be first inserted into an oscillator circuit and its output signal is to be read by a frequency meter or by a multimeter with the frequency meter function. The only instrument which is able to read a crystal frequency is a dip meter, a multi-purpose instrument used by radio amateurs.

but that is masuring outside of circuit. i need to measure inside circuit when start an i need to know why i cannot measure it

Make sure you are using AC Coupling and not DC coupling. I can read them perfectly with my oscilloscope. Not a great one but just sufficient for my purpose. Its a UNIT 2102CEX

now i see there is a switch with marking AC/DC. Coupling. what is it for?

If you are measuring a crystal circuit, it's important to use 10x probes. A lot of probes may have 1x/10x switch on them. The 10x increases the attenuation but also the impedance so it will not load down the circuit your measuring. The CRO normally has a 1x/10x setting that you set to correspond to what your probes are set to. There's also a a variable cap inside the probe you use to tweak compensation. You connect the probe to the CRO's internal 1khz signal and tweak the probe till you get a flat square wave.

Xtal circuits usually have some kind of DC bias on them, so you use AC coupling in the scope to remove the DC from the measurement and then you only see the oscillations. Hard to see a 50mv AC signal superimposed on 1V of DC as your waveform will be off the screen.

It was just simple basics about using DSO. Glad it helped you.

PS: Tip for those guys who dont own a DSO about checking crystal-Measure voltage on both ends of crystal and if the voltage differs by 0.1V approx-90% chance crystal is ok.

Hellow guys , i really need your help here.

Lately i have a problem with My TL 866 II Plus programmer, and to be more specific many times on various IC ( Winbond, Gigadevice Mx) i get Check ID Error while i am trying to read the IC. Has already been detected without any kind of problem, but the only to read them is to uncheck every time the "Check ID " option. After that i can read it erase it and re-program it only to get another error at then end saying that can not verify the programing went well so i have program failed. So i am trying to find out what is going on? I...

CH341a can erase and read but can't write and blank check
                      by hasel17
So I am trying to repair broken thunderbolt FW on X1 Yoga Gen 2. The EEPROM chip is WINBOND 25Q80DVNIG. I already do a back-up and erase. But when I try to wrote new FW, it was successfull, but when I tried to read it, it still blank. when I try to do a blank check, it gave me instant error in address 0. I already tried two CH341A, already did the 3.3v fix mod, using AsProgrammer, NeoProgrammer, Colibri, and CH341A 1.29. But the problem still occurred. What I did wrong here? Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. Here is the log in Colibri :

Hey guys, need help fixing a weird issue with DELL 3542 with board cedar intel mb 13269-1

                      Backstory:
Laptop came in as completely dead. I opened it and removed the top half of the casing (as well as battery) and tried to power it again and it turns on and post. I turned it off, unplug charger, plugged back in and nothing. No boot, no nothing. I tried resetting CMOS but no dice.

                      Power supply draw:

How to correctly measure a mixed low&high current
                      by edugimeno
                      Hi there!
Im trying to determine the consumtion rates of a module Im testing. Particularly it's a Decawave DWM1001 module, which is expected to use around nanoamps during normal state so a LiFePo4 battery should last months

This module has peak spikes of around 100mA once a second, while the TX module is active, and then goes to sleep for the rest of the time (this is when the uA rates are expected)

But I'm having issues to measure this current.

1.-Using a multimeter. Obviously all I see is values jumping all the time, as this is not expected...

Dell AC adapter - 1 wire protocol. How to initiate to check if adapter works.
                      by Bogdan Kolybaba
Hi all. Trying to troubleshoot issues with the Dell Laptop power supply (a lot of info here). Now I am waiting for a DC power Jack, as there is a loose contact. Want to check if the ID line of the adapter works - I have given abt 3.2 V to this line through the voltage divider, but can't see any signal on the oscilloscope. Same with the 100500% working AC adapter as well. How to initiate 1-Wire protocol transmission? As I understand, the circuit in the AC adapter should send a package for a while as soon as the supply comes to the SPID line. How to initiate this transmission correctly without...
