ASUS Laptop G71Gx Smoke (short) at Power Plug Input

Starting a new thread for this after having posted on an older thread that was similar problem.

Asus Republic of Gamers Laptop having - smoke coming out when I plug in the power supply - comes out immediately. I have seen this issue is extremely common by doing google searches.

Took apart laptop and have mb to work with. Tested across +/- without removing power plug from board and verified it is shorted. Ordered a kit for desoldering waiting for that to arrive (early next week maybe Oct 2). Then will remove power plug and test both board at the pin connection points and the power plug itself to see which one is shorted. So...waiting for the kit to move forward will post results and seek advice for next steps. I did order the power plug to mount a new one since this one is looking a little frazzled even if it's not the problem.

Ok, finally was able to remove the power plug to test separately. The short is definitely on the board, not the plug itself. Next steps?
      Thanks

As to my experiences on burnt laptop boards you will have no chance to remove that short because of multiple layers, if you use a magnifier to check the burnt zone you will see what I mean.

De-solder all components that are in physical contact with terminal input.
            Good luck.

I have no experience or knowledge and usage of tools to repair devices besides the entire past 12-10 days of researching, watching YouTube repair videos and troubleshooting this laptop motherboard. ChatGPT was used as a guide to ask questions.
I used boardviews of mostly FX505GD-M, and some FX505DU, FX505DD. Used schematics of FX505DU.

Acer Nitro 5 LA-L181p power LED turns on by 5 secs (Short on PCH rail?)
                by Victor Moreira Silva
                Hello everyone,

I'm trying to repair my old Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54-55T5). I've already bought a new laptop, so this is more of a learning project. For the experience, with no high expectations of success.

Well, my decice specs are the following:

                Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-55T5
                CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H
                GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
                Motherboard: GH51G LA-L181P Rev:1c

                The symptom:
When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up for about 5 seconds and then turns off. Initially, the issue was intermittent: sometimes...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
                by PantherDave
                Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

ASUS TUF X570-PLUS doesn't power on: no VRM_EN signal.
                by ShadowAi
Hello, I have an issue with the motherboard. Specifically, it doesn't power on, more precisely, the POST initialization doesn't occur.

Let me start from the beginning, the motherboard suddenly stopped working one day. There are no beep signals from the speaker, and the debug LEDs are not lighting up. After inspecting it under a microscope and using thermal imaging, I didn't find anything that could be damaged.

After that, I began voltage measurements, in which I noticed the absence of VDDQ, VDDP, VTT, and VPP lines. Later, I checked if there is an EN state on these lines,...

                by Duranitron
When I reflash again the bios of hoaca388 the unit powers on and the unit lives!!! Hooray!! All voltage in the coil 3.3v, 5v and 6.7v indicate charging are all present. including the cpu voltage , EEPROM and GPU voltage the unit is now alive, normal screen booting to windows and log in screen until I power it off. Then the unit never goes on even when pressing the power button in the keyboard.. Voltage reading 19v main , 3.3v VCC in IT8225E-128 and EEPROM VCC 0 volt and the charging voltage 0 volt.

Try to trace the power switch button goin to the power switch IC PU8803 (APL3533AQBI-TRG)...
