VAIO E, no backlight

After cracking the screen, the owner obtained and fitted the wrong screen.
He obtained and fitted the correct screen to find the backlight not working.
I traced what I think is the backlight supply back from the screen to a part on the mainboard that looks like a resistor with an "S" marked on it.
There is 19v on the bottom end and 0v on the top end of it.
Can someone tell me what the part is?

That is a fuse.Change it and i'm sure backlight will work.

I bridged it out and now the backlight and all works. It would be nice to know what it should be replaced with.

you can check for fuses on a dead motherboard.

search for smd fuses size is a 0603.

Thats what I should have used. I ended up letting it go with the fuse bridged with a thin piece of wire from a small mains transformer that fuses at 3A.
I dont like hard bridging fuses.
