    Asus G712L No Screen Backlight

Hi everyone, hope all is well. I have run into a problem where my backlight screen is no longer working.

The original screen was beginning to show signs of faultiness. I believe it was part of the inverter board that was going bad. The backlight for the screen was still functional at this point. Well one night as I was tinkering with the laptop, my idiot self forgot to disconnect the battery from the motherboard. I attempted to reconnect the EDP cable onto the motherboard, and as you might guess, I saw a nice spark from the cable and the port. Don't worry, I'm still kicking myself for doing this 😭. I purchased a new screen, since the original was beginning to go bad regardless of what I did. I also purchased a new EDP cable thinking that it could be possible something shorted within it. After receiving the new parts the backlight does not come on. I am able to see a picture on the display, shining a flashlight allows me to see it.

I figured I would use my mistake as an opportunity to learn more about electronics and electronics repair. I am reaching out for help and any suggestions that may be given to me. I have found the schematics and boardview on this site, and with some research, feel as if I am starting to pinpoint what might have gone bad. I have uploaded two pictures that I took of the EDP connection with the components near it, as well as from the other side of the relative location. There is no visible damage from the components from what I can tell. Now even though there is no visible damage, doesn't mean that something could be blown. I used my multimeter to test continuity from where I could find the traces leading to one another and nothing seems to be show signs of an issue, at least from what I know (which isn't a lot!).

Referring to the schematics, I have found that J4501 is the connection for the EDP cable. I also found that pin 18 is for LCD_PWM_CON, which seems to be connected to SL4503 and D4509. Testing continuity between these connections gives me a signal. After doing some more research, I saw that pin 17 could also be the culprit in the backlight not working. Pin 17 seems to lead to quite a few components. C4522, R4508, R4534, and D4521 seem to be the more notable ones of the bunch. Testing continuity between these connections also gives me a signal. I have also read that in these cases, most of the time it's a fuse that has blown. I cannot seem to find the fuses, or maybe I do not know what they look like from what I've tried to find online. I feel as if now I have hit a roadblock and ask everyone for their expertise.

The serial number for the motherboard: G532LWS R1.3

I tried to take the best photos I could as close as I could for what I believe is the problem area. I am happy to provide any more photos if necessary. Thank you all in advance.

measure voltage on pin1-2-3/18-19/38-39-40. Note that pin 1-2-3 and 38-39-40 are connected together.
Be careful while measuring and dont measure directly on the connector. Locate component connected to these pins and measure there.
The mb must be switched on while measuring.

Thank you for the quick reply! I went back and did some more poking around to see what I could find out. I plugged the motherboard into power and tested voltage on the pins mentioned. It seemed to me that they are reading at 19V from what I can tell.

I did a little more continuity tests and think I might have found something interesting. In the picture attached to this post, the component labeled 1 in the image seems to not be measuring continuity in some cases. Probing both sides gives no reading. Probing from one point of component #1 to the other points of #2 and #3 seem to give a reading though. Depending on what probe I'm using, the different points will give a continuity readout. I am not sure if this is normal behavior as I do not know exactly what component #1 is. I believe it's a capacitor? But I am not sure.

Looking at the schematic, that component labeled #1 is part R4508, which connects to LCD_BLEN_CON and LCD_PWM_CON (Pins 18-19). Should the voltage of these pins read 19V when plugged into a power supply? The schematic states itt might require 25V to power these components. But maybe the computer needs to be actually turned on and not just plugged into power?

Hope this information I found is helpful and leads to something! Thank you again in advance for any input.

        Hello,

YouTube video of the problem encountered: https://youtube.com/shorts/q7TLNv36LUo

I am a pro and I have a problem that I have never seen despite my 7.5 years of experience on my own and my thousands of repairs, on a customer's Dell G3 15 3500.

On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.

I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.

I changed the battery with a new and original battery.

I also had corrosion/oxidation on the...

AOC U34G3XM, new monitor, black screen with backlight on, possible shortcircuit during dissassembly
        by turmix
Hello, I'm working on a new deskmod pc project and have a problem with my monitor, an AOC U34G3XM, well, I may have bricked it.

The monitor was dismanteled and the separate parts parts integrated in the desk. the screen panel alone is on the upper part, and main board/video board + power board on the back of the desk (not enough place on the cover to fit it)
At first everything was working smoothly, then I decided to change the connexion between the video board and the screen for a longer one. Still working fine

During another reassembly, I made a mistake, and...

        HP Probook 450 G8 Boardview+Schematics - screen backlight issue
        by trepachka
I am just wondering if anyone has boardview+schematics for HP Probook 450 G8.

Computer is missing screen backlight. The backlight fuse must be kaput. I know the fuse is located on the motherboard because we tried a different working screen and it, too is missing backlight.

Perhaps, if the boardview+schematics are not available, someone can point out where the screen backlight fuse is located. Thanks.

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
        by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

LG 42LN540V LED Backlight Flickering After Replacement When Connecting The Screen
        by RetroComputingGrotto
This TV has been on the wall in our reception area for around 10 years and the other day the backlight failed. You could see a feint picture so we knew the screen was OK. I took the TV apart to get to the failed backlight and inject voltage in to each half of the LED strips to identify which ones had failed and 4 needed replacing. I ordered a set off of Amazon and they arrived the next day.

On fitting the new LED strips I plugged in the TV was blinded by the light!!

It was only when I partially put it all back together (including the screen) that...
