    Dead hp dv6 (quanta ut3)

    Dear All,
    Hello !

I am looking for a solution to a dead HP DV6-1235ee laptop with the following motherboard:
    Foxconn
    ML1-H94V-0E253117
    168UT30001-094D
    quanta ut3 schematics

    PU1:: ISL6262
    PU2:: RT8206B
    PU3:: 8119LN
    PU4:: P2805
    PU5:: ISL6251

som of the voltages i measured:
    DC jack = 19.93V
    +VA = 19.90V
    +VAD = 19.71V
    +VIN = 19.71 V
    +5VPCU = 5.25V
    +3VPCU = 3.45V
    +5VALW = 5.25V
+12VALW = 8.70V ?? is it fine or is overloaded somewhere?

    Voltages At EC (KB3926)

    9, 22, 33, 67, 96, 111, 125 (3VPCU) = 3.4V
    037 3920_RST# = 3.3V
    127 LID_EC# = 3.25V
    086 ACIN (ACIN_1) = 3.1V

    019 NBSWON#1 =3.4 / 0V (before /after power button)
    090 DNBSWON#1 3.4 / falls to 0.2V gradually rises to 0.5V and settles there

95 RSMRST# 0V / 2.8 V only for half a second when you press the power button and then falls back to 0V

    16 SUSC# 30 mV / 275mV again falls to 30 mV
    06 SUSB# 30 mV / 550 mV again falls to 30 Mv

    BIOS ( U22 sheet no 34)
    Pin no. name voltage
    1 BIOS CS# 0.18 V isnt it too low?
    2 BIOS RD# 1.64 V
    3 SPI 3P 3.4 V
    4 VSS 0 V
    5 BIOS WR# 0.25 V
    6 SPI CLK 1.5 V
    7 SPI 7P 3.4 V
    8 VDD 3.4 V

I would request you to kindly let me know what is going wrong which is preventing the rsmrst voltage from getting high. it tries to go high but falls down immediately to zero.

I dont know what to do now. kindly show me the path to tread.

    thanks in advance.

had a good look at that reply no 5. but that is something different....

if you want pictures , i can upload those but vissibly there is not any burnt component or dry solder....

hopefully someone can tell me how to troubleshoot it by measuring voltages in a logical sequence

                  thanks for your input.

sure many of you know where the problem is........ you just need to share your knowledge with others.

                    waiting for your reply

do you have the power on sequence of this laptop ????
why do you think RSMRST# is the guilty ????

RSMRST can be an impulse !!!!

i suspect the southbridge and the kb3926 . first reflow the southbridge and if it is not OK , you must change the kb3926.

                        good luck

Basically when you press power ON (NBSWON#1) what happen ?
                          Power +5VPCU = 5.25V; +3VPCU = 3.45V; +5VALW = 5.25V it is a bit high .Any trace of liquid.

                            v1406,

you said +12VALW but you have 8.70V. check capacitors connected to this line.

you said when you press power on, rmsrst got normal voltage, but goes to ov. check destination part. i suspect that when current reaches the components along its path, it goes off.

for 12v and become 8.7v , it usually the ic that supply that voltage gone wrong, try reflow the ic first, or replace with new one.

                                12v regulator IC?

Check SUSB# and SUSC# when DNBSWON is low
Bios CS#, RD# should check the waveform, do you have a constant waveform at these pins
As I can see, no need for a 12v start board!?

Frankly speaking, I had left the hope of receiving any worthy comments after a few days of lull.... but i am glad i was totally wrong. it took some time but by now there are plenty of them.

                                    thanks again.

coming to the point, i have already mentioned the low state of susb and sus c in my original post.

I am sorry to report that i dont have any cro so cant check the waveforms.
is there an easier way out there??
someone suggested to remove the bios totally and then try to power on. is that alright??

basically i want to know what is preventing the rsmrst to get to high state. it tries to get high but something shuts it down again. that something ...is the culprit ... which i want to trace.

also 12 v ... is it designed that way ....to be low in the begining and gain full strength at power on??

its getting lengthy so i will stop here and wait for your reply..... and then we will interact more

thanks once again for your interest

                                      Power +5VPCU = 5.25V; +3VPCU = 3.45V; +5VALW = 5.25V it is a bit high .Any trace of liquid.
                                      thanks for your interest

                                      there is no liquid spillage.

it was a bit dusty but i have cleaned that all.

the voltages will drop down with rise in current demand.

                                      thanks again

thanks for your comments. sorry i could not reply earlier.

in these dv6 laptops there is an LED just around the dc jack. that lights up as soon as you plug in the adapter. that LED is glowing .

but the LED that comes on after pressing the power button tries to glow......... very faint pulse of light comes when i press the power button but in less than half a second that goes off.

....... just like the rsmrst signal

                                        thanks again

                                          Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Hello , for some time I was studying Quanta U9x/8x schematics and the option to use both type of screen (LVDS 40 pin / eDP 30 pin).
In some cases to use LVDS screen PCB use converter IC RTD2132/6
Now I found an HP 15 F series U99 mainboard with RTD chip not populated and LVDS 40 pin lcd touch screen
at the same time I have another HP 15 N series with Quanta U92 mainboard and RTD2136 with eDP 30 pin lcd screen (no touch).
Maybe someone more experienced in the subject can clarify if is posible to change type of screen used with some resistors / bios options change.

                                          hello guys,

                                          i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
                                          so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...

i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.
