Re: What kind of gear do you use?
Achi ir6000 (sold) and I worked with her for about 2 years, I think this is the ideal rework station for start. It is not expensive and is well capable of doing the job.
ZM 5860 currently using and get ready for an upgrade
Ws81 Weller solder station 80w of power, comfortable working with BGA applications. At the time I bought it, I had to test and Weller WX2 Two handles 120w but I was not particularly impressed with it considering the price.
Uni-T DSO UT4202C logic analyzer and DMM.
Uni-t functioning generator UTG9005C...

Re: Dead hp dv6 (quanta ut3)
Check SUSB# and SUSC# when DNBSWON is low
Bios CS#, RD# should check the waveform, do you have a constant waveform at these pins
As I can see, no need for a 12v start board!?

Re: HP 6730s no backlight
From USB you can take 5v, you need 3vs
Can take from q36(FDC655BN)

Re: Hp nc6220
The most common failure in this series is the SB.(FW82801FBM)
It is best to replace with new one

Re: Understanding a laptop Schematic
Go to the page below (28)
At PC75 should have 5VPCU on PC73 3VPCU
PC48 19V (VIN)
PQ2 pin 5,6,7,8 should have 19V
Check these voltages firstLast edited by lucco85; 08-16-2012, 01:21 AM.

Re: HP Compaq 6715b possible gpu problem
The problem with norhbridge chip, the usual problem for this laptop
Reball it, or even better replaced with new

Re: question about reflow- it it ever a long term solution?
We are talking about the dv6000 which are generally defective chips, nvidia d / c 06-08 with no exceptions.
I think that we agree.
Reflow method is that I do not use because it is not reliable, but everyone has their own choice
For xbox, I do not know, so far I have not repaired them because rework station that I had been too weak (Achi ir6000).
I'll try it now....

Re: question about reflow- it it ever a long term solution?
I would not agree with this.
If the problem is bad solder reflow will help.
If, however, comes a faulty chip, just replacement of the chip can result in a reliable repair.
Unfortunately the defective chips are the most common problem....
