    Screen Replacement for A2337

    Hi,

I have a 2020 macbook air m1 that needs a screen replacement (cracked)

Right now, I have few options but not sure what to take

    1. Screen only from aliexpress (80 USD)
    2. Housing and screen from aliexpress (144 USD)
    3. Genuine used screen from ebay (250 USD ish)
    4. New screen from ifixit (450 USD)

To be honest, I dont think new screen from ifixit is worth it since I can get it replaced by apple with same amount of price (haha)

Now, I am wondering is it really worth to spend 100 more on used genuine screen.

Also, do I get a warning/issue with replacing screen?
I know recent iphone gives stupid genuineparts/true tone disabled if serial does not match with original.
I couldnt find any information if that gets applied for MBA 2020 M1 but want to double check.

    Thanks!!

I’ve bought screens off AliExpress. Enough to not offer them for a customers device. You will get a blemish or two on most or the colours aren’t quite right. If you have an issue with the screen down the track, the suppliers just ghost you. I’d get the used genuine display if it were me, or buy an iCloud locked device to steal parts off.

Many mislabelled or poorly refurbished display assemblies on Aliexpress, especially for newer machines. Not recommended.

Thank you so much for the reply
I will not cheap out on the parts and will get genuine parts from ebay.

The reference Amazon display is NOT an Apple original. It is a compatible display made by some company in China (most likely) / Taiwan. With Amazon, at least you have rights that you can return it if it does not work for you or is not to your liking.

We have had fairly good luck in sourcing displays offshore that work fine but the original is the original. Different price points / different specs.

Take for example, the Apple logo on the actual display. You will not find that support @ Mobile Sentrix - perhaps is available on Amazon. Offshore, yes but need to ask for it.

True tone support - no idea at this time.

Zero dead pixels - be sure to ask the vendor.

Intensity - the ones we have sourced have been fine but the original is still better.

Under the circumstances, proper vetting of the vendors offshore is worthwhile to seek out a quality product.

You can buy an IC locked complete unit in great condition for about $250.
No one wants them because you can't yet bypass them.

I'm unsure if this is still accurate as of 6/13/2023, but regarding a used genuine Apple M1 Display for 2020 machines:

Even if you manage to get a genuine replacement unit, the serial number located in the LCD I/C will be different that your logic board's serial number. M1 models pair the LCD to the Logicboard. This mismatch disables True Tone functionality. There is currently no way to program the LCD I/C to the logic board's serial number, like you can easily do with iphones.

Can someone who has replaced these with Genuine Apple LCDs shed some "light" (no pun intended) on the matter? Is True Tone preserved with a genuine swap or not?

                  Thanks!

I replaced recently a cracked screen with a genuine Apple LCD on MBA M1. The result is:

                    - True Tone does not work (there is no option to turn it on/off in the settings)

                    - the Apple Hardware Test will show at the end of the diagnostics the error code "ALS001" saying "There may be an issue with the ambient light sensor"
