PS 5, Need help locating a connection on motherboard

Hi all, I have a PS 5 (Disc Version) with a shortened rail. I need help in tracing its connection to enable me locate where the damaged component might be.

I have uploaded a High-Res photo of the area on the motherboard of the PS 5 and i have also circled the rail in RED.

I have removed the IC that generates the voltage for the shortened rail but the short is still there. I think it is a 3v rail.

I tried injecting voltage on the rail but can't seem to locate the source of the short, maybe there is a thick wire short somewhere.

Your help in locating it will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

it's a mul;ti-layer pcb, it could go anywhere.
i would check every ceramic capacitor until you find one that looks shorted - then lift it to see if it's the one

I've tried with no luck which is why I am asking for help here. I'll be glad if I can be directed to the area it is connected to. I think somewhere around the WiFi module was getting warm when i tried injecting voltage on the shortened rail but was not hot enough for me to pinpoint the exact location.

Hello, I had the same line in shorts, the culprit was eccentric on the motherboard. At first I don't think I looked in that area at all. Unfortunately I only took this photo if it can help you locate it (it's really in a corner of the motherboard)

Not sure if this is the culprit but take a look

        Good luck

Unless there is a specific Capacitor getting very hot during voltage injection, my best bet is the Wifi Chip. The rail with F7002 feeds the Wifi Chip directly with power.
If you need to remove the Wifi Chip, use hot air from opposite side of the board to avoid melting the plastic connectors. Also a good idea is to protect the board Speaker from heat and melting by using Kapton tape to protect it

Lowest possible resistance on laptop motherboard rail - Guide Table request
            by Nagy Daniel
Hi, I'm Daniel, and I'm new to the world of repairing motherboards.

I would like to create a table, or more likely a guideline about the voltage rails and their possible resistance rail.

I know that the motherboard design has a very big depend on the rail's resistance, but I would like to know what is the smallest value for a rail that can be acceptable. For example, I heard that some new gaming motherboards can have 0,5 Ohm resistance on the GPU rail, but on an older type, it could be a sign of a shorted GPU rail.

So, I generated a table with AI so I can...

            Programming KBC IT8987VG ASUS TUF FX506L RT809F+PEB
            by araxnido
Dear friends, I want to share my experience repairing an ASUS TUF FX506L gaming laptop motherboard: DABKXDMB8E0_F_BKXD. Boardview and schematic are available, as well as the BIOS and ITE ROM.

When the customer brought in this laptop, it was initially dead; it showed no signs of booting for any reason. After hours of measurements, checking each stage, MOSFET, and seeing if there was a short circuit in any capacitor, I discovered a strange 0.7V leakage voltage on the 3V_S5 rail, particularly on the PL9 coil, with the board not powered on. There were 3V_LDO and 5V_LDO voltages, which...

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
            by glovecaps
            Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

Legion Y540 17irh motherboard issue ( need help to know how to diagnose my motherboard)
            by Docus
            Hi everyone 😀,

I'm here today to ask for help with repairing the motherboard of a Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH.

To give you some context, I'm passionate about computer repair so much so that I've invested in a lot of tools and started practicing on dead and old hardware. I've been learning how to solder and desolder components, mostly focusing on phone repairs.

Recently, I bought a broken Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH for just €150, and there are two main reasons why I made this purchase:
            1. I already own the exact same model, but its plastic chassis is badly damaged.

            by worlor
            Hello,
I am currently learning to repair laptop motherboard and I need some advice/help.
I have a MSI GE62-6PQ laptop that didn't boot. It's an old laptop that got a glass of coke :/
I have cleaned the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol and a brushteeth.
The motherboard is a MS-16J51. I put the schematics attached.
I also attach high res pictures of the board.

            Symptoms :
When I connect it to the power supply, it goes into protection.

            What I have done :
            Checked the fuse : OK
Visual check OK : No burned components
            ...
