the fat's have touch-sensors, slims have cheap tactile buttons.

Yup, we are on the same page then with the case design.

I'm still not convinced about the PSUs, though.
Perhaps post PSU model numbers to be clear?

i will take a photo or 2 on saturday - it's still in bits waiting for a shell (dont ask!) so no problem doing that.

Hi all my ps3 when plugged in just flashes green the ned and afterwards no led at all,pls help,it will be greatly appreciated

Ok stj i tested 5vsb and that is ok,now i just need to test for 12v to check if the psu is ok but it is taking a while as i am working a day job and tired at night and want to be alert when working with electronics

Hi ricardoito thanks for diagrams but my psu,a Delta EADP 260AP A has only 3 pins,pson gnd and 5vsb

yes, ceramic caps
if just desoldering that fixes your fault then your very lucky.

meter a good one.
it will probably be o.k. with one missing anyway - so just removing it is o.k. for testing

22uf 16v X7R dielectric in a 3225 size

i removed the cap now and tested it,it comes on and has the green led and blue led and gives 3 beeps,does that sound right stj

cant remember, it does different things if for example the settings are corrupt because you took the battery out for a while.
hook up a hdmi cable and check the screen - any usb joypad can be used

The blue lead is indicating that there is disk in the tray ... if there is not the disk in the tray there might me an issue with the CXR chip , or is detecting some kind of error... So did the ps3 come on? , does it turn off again?

you can just visually check the area around that cxr chip and under it on the other side of board , if your disk drive is not working...

Thanks sigmeyer,the ps3 after removing the bad cap comes on,the fan turns on then afterward it flashes red led,that is without the bad cap in

Yesterday when i pressed eject it made a clicking sound,i am sure the owner of it told me that there is a disc still in the disc drive
