Xbone powers on for 3 seconds and then powers off.

I picked up a used original Xbox one (1540) and it's not powering on properly. It comes on with the normal sound and light, but after 3 seconds, it shuts down. The power supply appears to be working properly, so I opened up the console and cleaned it thoroughly. That made no difference. While it was apart, I noticed that the cooling fan slightly "bumped" when power first came on but it doesn't actually spin at all. I tried turning it on while manually spinning the fan with compressed air, in case there is an rpm sensor that wasn't being satisfied to keep it powered up, but no joy.

I checked for power at the mainboard plug that supplies the fan and I got 12vdc during the short time that the power was actually on. Next, I pulled the fan out, put it on my bench and separated the fan assembly and circuit board from the fan surround and bearings. I have continuity from the mainboard plug to the fan circuit card on all 4 wires, so I inspected the circuit card for any obvious damage and when I didn't find any, I reflowed all the components that were diode size or bigger just in case. I didn't want to reflow anything smaller in case I ended up knocking off some of the really small components on there.

My next "guess" is to buy a replacement fan and see if that fixes it, but I wanted to get some more info first, seeing as this is my first experience at all with this system.

-Is the fan supposed to start spinning immediately?

-Has anyone else had this problem, specifically 3 seconds on and then shutdown, and if so, did replacing the fan fix the problem? There are a number of forums that address no power at all or power shutting down after a few minutes or later, but very little even mentioning the few seconds on scenario.

-Has anyone fixed this particular problem any other way?

    Thanks for the help.

Have you checked the ics and rectifiers ect under the heatsink and check all the capacitors these boards love to pop them

The Xbox one has solid/polymer caps around the CPU. Not gonna find those popped without the CPU/GPU cooked to death.

      As to the O/P's problem...
test the fan in a PC or on a breadboard. It's probably just a standard 4-pin PWM fan. Just find which pin is ground and which is 12V. Then you can worry about finding the PWM pin by pulling it down to ground through a 1 KOhm resistor - this should make the fan not turn or turn very slowly. Pulling the PWM pin to 12V through the same resistor should make it go to full speed. If the fan does these things, it's probably fine.

That said, I'm putting my money that it's *not* the fan that is bad. Probably something else, though I'm not sure what to suggest, exactly. Knowing how bad the cooling was in the Xbox 360, I can probably put my money on bad BGA. But I'll let others with more experience on the Xbox One speak here.

        Hello Twithers,
Is the X-Box you have the first consoles manufactured by Micro$oft?
From memory, they were released mid 2004 or 2005 are the ones I mean.

I read up some on this when I had a failed xbox one with an unrelated problem.

I remember that many had failed Southbridge ic's, can't remember if it was the actual ic or bga solder as momaka suggests.

Hang tight there's sure to be someone here with more knowledge on this.

Short circuit on XBOX controller - Model 1914.
            by MarkC1970
We have a XBOX 1914 controller that has shorted the 3V3 to J2 (aerial connector). If you unplug the aerial, the controller boots and connects. It seems stable without the aerial plugged in but it is not ideal.

            The schematic is on https://www.acidmods.com/RDC/XB1/Sch...OME_VALUES.pdf

I have little to no understanding of these RF transmitters and so I am unsure what has failed. Currently, T2 is short on Pins 1 to 2 and RFF2 is also short on Pins 1 to 2. This is how the 3V3 is getting connected to J2, clearly one or both of these components are faulty....

I bought my son a used Xbox One original model: A12-220N1A Rev: 02 with original PSU & 2 controllers 7 years ago. I “modded” the unit placing a 4.5” 12V exhaust fan with a 9v wall wart adapter on top of the vent/fan of the unit. And plugged the Xbox PSU into a Tripplite LTR-600 voltage regulator. Also connected to the Tripplite are a 275w computer tower, an Xbox 360 PSU and a Westinghouse 52” LED TV. ...

does anyone have a schemtaic for what circuit each cap is in on the original xbox?
            by bulkchart32
i have a 1.1v and i am having issues with faint wavy lines on the screen that i am trying to make perfect so it will be my main xbox.. also have some 1.0v's that are doing it but to a lesser degree. i really don't want to do a full board recap, especially don't want to have to replace those smds, so i want to find which specific caps that filter the video signal. i have already replaced several caps and messed up one of them that caused a dead short(has been repaired). so i really don't want to just do all the caps. plus, those 1.1v boards have a lot of them. i'd really like to just focus on the...

Alienware 17 R3 (LA-C912P) Powers on then powers off after 4-6 seconds
            by ResoluteHawk
I have an Alienware 17 R3 (board is a C912P) that I recently starting trying to repair. Originally the issue was the charger going into protection mode when plugged in to the laptop. I found a short on the motherboard (one of the capacitors on the back of the board under the DRMOSes for the CPU) and the charger when plugged in now doesn't go into protection mode anymore. The laptop powers on, the lights on the keyboard, alien head, and alienware logo light up, and the fans spin. The issues are:

            1) The battery doesn't charge. I've probed the charger jack and it's only receiving 0.633v...

ASUS TUF 506 powers off after about 10 seconds due to heat
            by survivalbloke
This laptop come in with liquid damage. I located a couple areas on the board which honestly didn't look bad at all. I ISA them and cleaned up - can't even tell anything happened. However, when I power up the computer, it will shut off after about 10 seconds. I discovered it seemed like the fans weren't coming on because the board was getting mad hot right around the battery charging mosfets and coil. Anyhow, I checked under the thermal camera with just the power adapter connected but the machine off. I have marked what is warm at that time. Once I power it up, the coils near CPU vcore start heating...
