Re: Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
Well I thew everything I have at the new MOBO/Caps and the computer ran smooth.
Intense HD audio processing/rendering. All without a hitch. Interestingly my most demanding plugin used to require 7 minutes to render 3 minutes of music. Now it takes a little under 3 minutes to render. All the other applications seem to be moving faster as well.
Overall computer navigation is smoother. Boot up MUCH faster.
My computer was sick for a long time before it gave out.

Re: Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
Well I'll start at the end.
The computer is working (Could not have done it without your help!)
I was hasty in my post:
Not the complete story:
As stated before, after the re-cap, the no-boot symptom remained (see first post). However, now instead of looping back to the "We apologize..." screen, it goes BSOD and shuts down.
I first decided to collect a bunch of DOS/Floppy diagnostics tools, most notably TuffTEST-Lite v3, AIDA-16 and HWINFO v4.97....

Re: Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
A big thanks to all and to Per Hansson!
The re-cap job was a success. There was a learning curve and I did have to micro drill out two stuck leads. (I have done a lot of micro drilling in my time thankfully, and yes I know this is a method that is not endorsed by the people on this forum).
One mistake is that I did not use my chisel tip. I realize that could have made a difference by supplying more heating surface to the area. I did see that in the Badcaps.net articles,...

Re: An Xbox One PSU Odyssey
I do not have a house surge protector.
I have very, very limited electronics experience.
I do have a fair degree of digital/analog audio engineering experience. But I am self taught and learn/apply only what is specific to my individual needs.
I applied A/B testing to audio signals (I have two audio studios in my house). Running sine wave audio signals through equipment with voltage regulation versus non-regulation. The unit used is a Furman AR-1215 which is more exacting in tolerance levels vs. Tripplite...

Thanks for the heads up. Thankfully I have not encountered that symptom to date......

Re: An Xbox One PSU Odyssey
Thanks for the responses. I see to first compare the wall outlet with the LS606M output Via DMM.
And to also compare the LS606M output with different combinations of peripherals connected.
I can also basically take out the variable:
Plug Xbox PSU into LS606M And plug monitor into wall. Which means I'm f*ing with something that works which makes me skittish
Man I hope not. I need to start by getting that above mentioned data.
That was my guess. Perhaps my son...

Re: An Xbox One PSU Odyssey
Firstly I'm an idiot because it is the Tripplite LS606M
https://www.tripplite.com/600w-120v-power-conditioner-automatic-voltage-regulation-avr-ac-surge-protection-6-outlets~ls606m
It is defined as:
600W 120V Power Conditioner with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), AC Surge Protection, 6 Outlets
Yes, using a DMM would answer that question. I did not think of that as obvious as it is. I don't have natural tech instincts
Thanks for the suggestion.Re: An Xbox One PSU Odyssey...Last edited by TMTGTR; 06-17-2022, 07:32 PM.

An Xbox One PSU Odyssey
Firstly I am not a tech. You guys may see mistakes or oversights in my methods so don't be bashful and feel free to post corrections/opinions.
=>Background:
I bought my son a used Xbox One original model: A12-220N1A Rev: 02 with original PSU & 2 controllers 7 years ago. I “modded” the unit placing a 4.5” 12V exhaust fan with a 9v wall wart adapter on top of the vent/fan of the unit. And plugged the Xbox PSU into a Tripplite LTR-600 voltage regulator. Also connected to the Tripplite are a 275w computer tower, an Xbox 360 PSU and a Westinghouse...

Re: Dell Optiplex 990 1-3-2 Beep (Memory Error)
I presume you looked at this page:
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000124830/dell-optiplex-and-vostro-beep-codes-and-error-messages
Interestingly there is no definition for 1-3-2 though perhaps covered in:
"1-3-1 through 2-4-4 'DIMMs not being properly identified or used' "
And I also presume you've checked this out:

Good luck!Re: Dell Optiplex 990 1-3-2 Beep (Memory Error)...

Re: Pioneer DDJ-SZ XLR right is distorting
Not a Tech, can't help much.
If memory serves, I had a similar symptom on a cassette deck with RCA jacks. one channel was distorting intermittently. I retouched the solder points on the jacks' connection to the main board. Problem went away.
Good luck!

I'm not a tech. Pardon possible ignorant suggestions.
Check w/headphones?
Check wires to built-in speakers?

Re: Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
1- I am presuming that the "bumblebee" caps are the 4 yellow caps (2 on each side of the 6 processor core voltage caps)?
If I am to replace those, what does Badcaps store offer?
2-Thank you for your insights and knowledge.
I believe that purchasing from Badcaps store is the way to go. That said, I've decided to do a visual inspection of all my motherboards (Old XP and 98/ME Machines) in the coming week. I already know of one suspect cap...

Thanks for sticking with me. You are a lighthouse on a dark night. Your explanation has already taken me away from my preconceptions and given me some education.
Okay. So my following questions are going to really show my ignorance, please, please bear with me because I may be asking things you have already answered or you have taken for granted I already knew the info.
Is this the Capacitor you are suggesting?:

Thanks for the reply and info. I'm fine ordering from Badcaps.
I am skittish about polymer caps due to:
My desire to replace as close as possible to the originals

I have read many negative reports regarding polymer caps

My desire to use brands cited by Topcat on this forum as "Good" :
1) Rubycon (My personal favorite)
2) Sanyo/Nippon
3) Nichicon
4) Mallory
5) Panasonic
I'm just not savy enough...

Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
The Symptom:
I own a Dell Dimension 8300 motherboard that will post and get to the black (XP pro 32bit) “We're Sorry Windows did not load” Screen.
When restarting any option i.e. “Normal” “Safe Mode” etc. Computer re-boots to same screen. I checked RAM with memtest –OK Checked O/S Drive with Victoria -OK
Upon Inspection:
I did a physical examination and see that the 6 caps by the CPU are all bulging in various degrees. (See Pics Below).
I found a YouTube vid with a guy who replaced...

Re: Best video card for 2D?
Not sure how applicable this is:
When looking for a vid card, I would recommend to scour the web for any issues with system standby after installation.
I recently bought a GT710-PCIEx1 (1 GB Ram) For a dedicated optiplex-745 Media Small Form Factor Computer (Win XP Unofficial SP4) in my "Den" (Movies, Music and light web browsing).
The onboard Dell Video AGP was tearing my videos*. The 710 was ebay used but looks brand new. $30.00.
The only issue I found is that installing...
