Motor Run Capacitor in AC unit

The hot summer days from the heat wave around a month ago here in southern california took its toll on my Air Conditioning unit. I tried to turn it on a few days ago as usual..., but the unit would not start up. A quick call to a friend who services AC units got me back up and running again. There was a bad motor run cap that was obviously bulging

Replacement cap was bought locally for around $15, MUCH cheaper than calling some random AC repairman from the yellow pages. Just though I would share this experience with you guys.

My brother had the same problem with a large window unit he uses to cool his ranch house.
    Ludicrous gibs!

in a good season i can fill a 5 gallon pickle bucket with motor caps failed like that just from window units i rebuild to sell.sometimes they blow up or spit out the terminals.

Are that AL elektrolytic caps? metall paer should not bulge that way, but may be a litle expensive at that capacity.

            iirc they are paper/oil dielectric.

Might tell that to the man at the locan junkyard.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition
                by MORETTIGIAN
                Title:
Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

                Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

                Procedure performed:
                - Removed backplate
                - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
                - Reapplied thermal compound
                - Reassembled card

                Observed behavior after reassembly:
                - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Motor run capacitor physical size vs voltage rating & measurements?
                by Per Hansson
                (TL;DR skip the first paragraph)
I encountered my first dead motor run capacitor at a customer this week.
For some fields I guess it is a very common occurrence but the usual way for industrial machines here is to use 3-phase motors.
(Unless a servo motor makes more sense that is).
But for some reason this 3-phase machine uses a 1-phase motor for its liquid coolant pump.
The pump would run but sometimes trip the 10A breaker.
I monitored it starting and stopping for over an hour until it finally stopped in a specific spot between its windings:
                Then it could...

                RTX 3080 FE Identifying capacitor
                by Prolog
Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

Air-conditioning unit power supply failing to power up
                by Gjackson
Hi all, I managed to narrow down which PCB was causing my Haier AC to throw out an E7 error code (E7 indicates that the indoor unit and outdoor unit cannot communicate). I found that the outdoor unit power board which gives 5v and 15v to the outdoor unit module board fails to fully power up.. The power Led starts to fade in incredibly slowly and the 5v and 15v power buses jump around like crazy and never reach their required voltage. I unplugged the module board from the power board and the power board powered up fine! It had a steady 5v and 15v out and the power LED came on instantly and Bright....

Dick Smith Q-1760 linear power supply filter capacitor question
                by Agent24
I have acquired a used Dick Smith Q-1760 power supply - although the OEM is Manson Industrial
It has at least one problem.

The voltage control potentiometer VR2, 50K is faulty - going high resistance / open circuit in the CCW end and leading to the output voltage jumping around.
I have already ordered a replacement potentiometer, so that's not an issue.

Now, I want to replace all three electrolytics on the PCB as they are CapXon and I don't trust them so much, I will replace them with something better while I've got the thing apart anyway.
                All are CapXon...
