Nintendo Switch lite charging chip heats up and does not short circuit

    Hello everyone

Small technical problem on a Nintendo Switch lite
Here's what I noticed: the USB port has been damaged internally, with a short circuit on the power supply line to the small fuse.

After replacing the USB connector, the short circuit went away and I can't see any other short circuit in the whole motherboard.

When I charge the console, it seems to be charging: I get 15 volts and an amperage of 0.450 A.

Then, after a while, the amperage increases to 1.1 A and the BQ24193 charging chip starts to heat up, as evidenced by the thermal camera.

So I replaced this chip and it didn't short-circuit, but it still heated up, and I replaced the chip for the 3rd time.

I also replaced a small diode on the line, and the same problem persists: the load chip heats up.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks

      Hello,

BQ24193 is heating, it's normal behaviour. What is the temperature?
Charge current seems normal, are you sure it is not a display problem?
      Check LCD and LCD connector.

The BQ24193 gets hot while the battery is charging. That's basically what happens when you force that much current through the chip that energy gets dissipated as heat. As long as it's not getting hot while the charge isn't connected everything is most likely working as intended.

Is there anything else wrong with the switch other than the bq chip heating up?

Thanks for your feedback, a 1 Amp load probably means a short circuit, but I could be wrong.

Indeed, I've already tried with another LCD screen and a new daughterboard, unfortunately a waste of money =S

There's no sound coming out of the console, because if it's a display problem and the console starts up I should be able to hear the console sound, but that's not the case here.

No start-up and I changed the USB-C port again and no short circuit anywhere and now the console estimates 0.453 A which is much better but still black screen =(

I'd say about 50 degrees was instantaneous heat when charging, regardless of the type of charger, be it the original 15-volt or a normal USB C charger.

If you haven't already try replacing the m92 ic. I've had tons that looked like everything was charging correctly, but not turning on. It's weird how that chip fails sometimes without any shorts or signs anything is wrong.

You could also potentially have an issue with the lcd connector where a pin is bent out of line or an issue with the display power regulator (MAX77620) on the underside of the board by the lcd connector.

I personally don't think there's anything with the bq IC from what you've described.

Re: Nintendo Switch lite charging chip heats up and does not short circuit

It's actually the 3rd M92T36 chip and the console started up after the Nintendo Switch logo and then nothing.

Test new battery we hear the sound but no image here is a new problem lol

Test with a new daughterboard and a new LCD panel from the daughterboard to the motherboard, still the same problem.

No shorts around the chips, so I decide to replace the M92T36 and it's still the same. I've got my 15 volts and a battery that charges.

I suspect that the LCD connector close to the charging connector, which receives 4.90 V, should not receive the power from the 15 V charger?
What's more, I've noticed that only one volume button works, the power button doesn't work and neither does the top volume button.

I'm ordering a new FPC connector and we'll see.

Help me find the short circuit on this WORKING Nvidia GTX1650
                  by aaronkatrini
                  Hi all,

Recently picked up this GTX1650 at a local flea market for a low price and wanted to use it on my secondary PC. I first tested the card and saw the fan spin for a split second and then nothing. Immediately I thought of a short circuit. Disassembled and found a shorted SMD capacitor, injected voltage into it (1V/4A) and two Mosfets got hot immediately (QN3103 & QN3107). Desoldered these Mosfets and the card turned back to life.

Bought replacements from Aliexpress and replaced them afterwards. Tried the card but still the saw the fan spin for a split second...

9th Gen Dell Optiplex Micro PC motherboard repair: Short Circuit?
                  by Geeker007
Hi All, I have a 9th Gen Dell Optiplex micro PC motherboard which doesn't power on. When I connect the motherboard with power adapter, it goes into safe mode and turns off. So from info I have gathered online, it looks like there is a short circuit on the motherboard. So can you guys help me with figuring out the issue?

I am new to electronics repair, so my queries could be naive but I am ready to learn.

So I have a multimeter and a solder with me. But I can try to get a variable voltage power supply with a thermal camera as well. From what I seen online, best way is...

                  Hello.
I have seen a short circuit tester made with 3 * 9V batteries, a voltage limiter component and a resistor connected to the probes of a multimeter.
The theory is that the meter becomes sensitive enough to read very low resistances and the lowest resistance to ground on a circuit is likely to be a short circuit in that area.

Hello. MSI B250 Gaming M3 board, short-circuit on the power supply. Found a problematic mosfet VQ1
(N-PK616BA_PDFN8-HF) soldered it out - short circuit is gone. I replaced VQ1 + VQ5 (N-PK632BA_PDFN8-HF). VQ1 was replaced with PK618. After starting attempt VQ1 is lit again. What can be the problem? In the driver?

Fault source of a short circuit
                  by rumpumpel1
I have a mainboard with a short circuit (approx. 0 Ohm) on the 3.3V rail. As usual, I injected current and observed the mainboard with the thermal camera. Instead of individual components becoming warm, I observed that an area of several square centimeters became evenly warm from approx. 2A.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Is it possible that there is a short circuit between two layers of the mainboard? The visual inspection of the mainboard did not reveal any abnormalities....
