    Dead HD6950 how to troubleshoot?

Hi have a HD6950 that mysteriously stopped working one day. Fans spin when turning on pc but it prevents pc from booting even with an intergrated graphics on the cpu. What steps can I take to troubleshoot the fault? I have basic electronics skills but always want to know more.
Any help even how small is appreciated.

      Hi jimbob
Start by checking for short circuits on the voltage supply rails. All graphics cards a similar in this respect.

Watch this video - completely different card but yours will have similar layout

Post some good guality pics of your card with the heatsink removed

I suspect the same as well. Large die ATI/AMD GPUs are just problematic (not that nVidia ones aren't.)
That's not to say I discourage any troubleshooting. The steps that dicky96 suggested in the video are a good start. But just keep in mind that it might be another unrepairable card... so use that to meter how much time and effort you want to put into this card.

I'd personally chuck it for a quick reflow/re-heat and see if it comes out alive. If yes, you know the problem was GPU. If no and you didn't go over-board with the heat, then no harm to the GPU really and you can continue troubleshooting normally. I just prefer the reflow/reheat method, as it saves me time troubleshooting on these big GPUs.

Asus Strix Z270i Gaming dead DIMM troubleshoot
            by Novgorod
            Hi!

I have an Asus Z270i mini-ITX board with a dead DIMM slot (the one further from the CPU). The board POSTs with only the other DIMM populated but gets stuck with the DRAM error LED when the bad slot is populated. The test RAM and CPU are known working (confirmed in a different board, both memory channels are fine). The board was working for many years in a watercooled system and had a tiny bit of corrosion in different places (which came off without issues) and no visible component or trace damage.

What are the steps for DIMM (DDR4) socket troubleshooting? Since the...

How to troubleshoot dead power brick
            by mmartell
I have an adjustable power supply having a selectable voltage from 15v to 24v. It was sold as a universal soundbar power supply.

It has been outdoors in the elements powering a set of outdoor bluetooth rock speakers until recently when it stopped working. (ya ya I know...)

I opened it and it looks like there was some liquid ingress but I can't find any shorted silicon and the fuse is not blown. I measure about 160v dc after the bridge rectifier but nothing at the main cap. I suspect the power ic is not running. Obviously there is no voltage on the secondary either....

Dead t480s, trying to troubleshoot. May have found something.

Hello. I have a lenovo that will not show any indication of life. No led, sound or anything really. So I took the motherboard out and started testing points according to the advice in this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=102409

            PU201 is Showing 6v

VREG3/5 show a high value (around 20v) for a split second then drop down very quickly. Hold around 1v but then continue to drop to zero. One is showing .2v.

Fuse PF1 is showing very low voltage (which according to the thread deals with docking and is expected)

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
            by double_DD
            Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...
