    No luck lately (EPoX 8RTA3)

I just attempted to recap a board for my sister, and all went well. I double-checked the solder joints with the pocket microscope, and touched up where necessary.

I'm starting to like the convenience of the flux-pen i bought.

Anyway, everything was going fine until.......i tried to install an OS. I began to think there was something wrong with the hard drive so i substituted with a CF-to-IDE adapter. No access.

Reconnecting the hard drive and starting FDISK allowed me to partition the disk. FDISK seemed to see the correct size of the disk 78,xxx MB. When i formatted the disk only 12,xxx MB appeared.

I was told that this board was doing some pretty crazy things before it was brought to me but i'll have to ask about the hard drive controller.

*What was mentioned was that the board would only recognize one memory slot.

My Question: Even though i cleared the CMOS before starting it, could the firmware still be hung in this odd state?

I have an application that seems to work better at clearing the CMOS than a 'Load Defaults' and i wonder if it could work where a 'clear-CMOS-jumper' operation failed.

    No luck with CLRCMOS.exe.

It's not that the IDE controller doesn't work at all, it just doens't work correctly. I can begin a Win2k install and copy the files to the hard disk. When it comes time to restart and begin the 'setup', the screen freezes after displaying half of the Win2k splash screen.

I'm still wondering if the firmware could be hung and not allowing the disk geometry to be read correctly.

I guess i have nothing to lose by attempting to reflash.

      The board is a 8RDA3, isn't it?
First I'd check bios settings: put the disk in LBA mode, try zeroing the drive with the manifacturer utility and then reformat it again. Sometimes bad MBRs may prevent a complete partitioning with fdisk unless you remove the issue.
Second: the "first slot only" thing is suspicious, do a ram check with memtest86+ for at least 10 cycles.
Third: do you have a spare ide controller? If you do, then try connecting the hard disk to this controller: if it works, there is a problem with the controller embedded into the chipset or with the bios.

talking about the bios...: try to update it

as epox finally closed its doors in 2007 its hard to get manuals and stuff (epox FTP is offline)..

well.. the russian epox site still works fine

        and finally..

BTW: i bet it's the 8RDA3 as there's no epox board with "RTA"

          No. It's EP-8KTA3 w/ Via KT133a chipset. (Yup, that's a typo)

It has some monster caps on it. The first board i've recapped that has 12.5mm diam caps.

Flashed bios with the same and no change.

Either the board is damaged beyond the caps or......

another board with those "monster caps" (12,5mm dia)

MSI K7T Pro Ver.1 (MS-6330 Lite ; cheap ass crippled OEM board for Compaq Presario PCs.. the original AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1,1GHz was still on it when i got it)

              nice little size comparison...

              BTW: total of 4 of those 4700uF (!) caps... + 3x Teapo 3900uF 10V with 12,5mm diameter.. WTF

replaced the 3900uF 10V Teapos (those were leaking onto the board a bit) with 3300uF 6,3V Panasonic FJ.

replaced all other caps (partly "exploded" Chhsi 2700uF 6,3V at the AGP slot) with the KZGs (see pic) and all other small caps (6,3V 1000uF Chhsi) with OSTs with the same values..

board is working fine since 1 year in my mums PC
took a photo because i'm cleaning it up right now... her PC acts like a vacuum cleaner somehow

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
                by DynaxSC
                Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
                • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
                • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket
                ...

Today recieved hp model 17-f100nx laptop with no power.(motherboard=DAY11AMB6E0) after that repaired +1.05v section due to faulty buck converter.after that power issue fixed and laptop turns on.But "no bootable 3f0 error displayed".so then

i checked the connectivity of ribbon=good communication with hard and motherboard

changed hard disk and checked=3f0 error persist

                sata power=+5v available

                Then checked data capacitors=all good

Then checked data lines path connectivity to pch=all good

LG GCC-4521B cannot read any disk
                by chth96
I bought 6 second hands odd $5 at a flea market and I found that 2 odd(GCC-4521B,TS-H192) won't read any disk.
But I measured all ESR value of SMD capacitor which is located on the TS-H192's PCB and replaced two capacitor which has higher ESR value.
And To My joy, this TS-H192 odd finally recognized burned CD as well as pressed CD.😂
But there was no more good fortune for GCC-4521B..In order to dead GCC-4521B back to life, I replaced three capacitor which has higher ESR value and I rubbed silicon grease on the every glides.I even brushed lens with cotton swab which was soaked...

                PS5 Disk Tray issues.
                by welp
I have a PlayStation 5 CH-1215A with a Disk drive not reading disks anymore. (accepting and ejecting very slowly.)
Knowing the PS5 has a married daughter board for the disk drive I made sure to use that and replace the rest of the disk tray as it* was owned previously by an indoor smoker.
Once the job was complete and put back everything together, I tried to insert a disk with no luck at all...
So, I checked voltage going from the ps5 to the daughter board and am only getting the 5V rail.
With that knowledge I preceded to check all the fuses for the 12v rail on the main...

                Apple Macbook A1707 Hard disk
                by Eleways
                Hi

I've an Apple macbook A1707 with Hdd defect.

This product don't work with a normal Hard disk, but the hard disk it's a BGA component on the logic board.

                My question is:
Can i exchange the hard disk, by desolder the bga Hard disk and replacing this?

Can i replace with a different one (es 500 gb instead of 250 gb)

This Macbook has T1 security check.

                Thanks and best regards

                Luca
