Some abit boards are OEM'd through Hsing Tech....

HSING is the parent company to PCChips/ECS and the lot...

Not saying they are bad boards, just that they can end up with the same bad caps that the PCChips and ECS boards have been getting.

Actually every abit board i've gotten for over the past year has had Japanese caps on it, either Nichicon or Rubycon. Given that Abit may just be farming out production to this company doesn't mean that they'll get the bad caps.

It is the same with Intel boards, they are made by foxconn whose own boards do not have the same quality of capacitors. oem manufacturing is not a bad thing when many companies are having their products manufactured at the same source there is cost savings for everybody. Many of the oem companies whose names make us cringe have very high tech facilities and are capable of making perfect products but the choice of better components and each additional step in the manufacturing process is adding additional cost. Many companies sadly compete so fiercely on price so steps are cut out of the process, the components are the cheapest available and quality control goes out of the window.

It is sad that price is such a factor for consumers these days. This season i have had so many requests to recommend the cheapest computer, digital camera etc which is good. even the japanese consumer goods majors are shifting production to china something which was not acceptable to the japanese in previous years.

We just have to hope that companies like abit remain committed to high spec and quality control of their oem produced products. i nearly bought an abit board 865 chipset but there was problems reported with the bios. they should be commended on their commitment to rubycon caps and so remain near the top of my list of choices. i have seen the latest low end asus mini-atx boards 915 chipset used in many computers for this christmas, full of cheap caps.

Considering the speeds of the new processors, the heat and voltage draw i think that caps will fail earlier in these fast systems based on 915 925 chipset. it will not be pretty when these christmas systems pop by next year.

Anyway thanks for the heads up. It is an interesting topic to comment on.

no, the board was tossed out about 2 years ago when i gave up on repairing it

I'm not going to argue because I've suspected Intel wasn't fab'ing their own boards anymore,,, but I'm curious where this info comes from.
