Re: Who is good with graphics cards repair, Asus gtx580.
Foshland, I believe MODS and MATS only work with Nvidia GPU based cards. Best of luck.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster S23A550H no video on VGA
had the same problem. I installed the software and tried to update the firmware. It wnet from 0 to 10% and would loop for about an hour before I tried to use the hdmi. It wouldn't even power on after that. Does anyone have any suggestions other than a replacement board? Many thanks.

Re: Ga-p35-ds3p
Please take a closer look at your blue pci-express slot near the hold down latch. There is an area of discoloration just near the 2 red striped caps. I cannot tell from the picture if all of the contacts are there. That may be where the original video card was that blew up, just not sure. Good luck!

Re: Asus P5B Deluxe
Please don't forget that Asus places their caps in oppositeland. Check the polarity and markings before you fire it back up. Good find!

Re: A8N SLI-Deluxe not POST-ing - suspect a possible bad cap
Welcome to the forums! From the looks of it, it's a United Chemi Con, probably a KZG series. A few more pictures would help. If the cap is what I suspect, it needs to be replaced, and a good job would be to replace all of them on the board. Also please note that ASUS uses reverse markings on their boards for polarity of caps. Good luck!

Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds
A Dell core I7 with a completely destroyed hard drive. Probably done by a hammer by the looks of it. Pieces of the drive lying in the bottom of the case. Windows 7 COA. I installed a 80 gig hard drive and it's been folding for months now.

Polymer cap ratings
Hi all,
I hope this is not a double posting, but I would like to know the method of replacing an aqueous cap with a polymer one. Specifically, are there any formulas that would help me buy or size the right one if I'm replacing a 1000uf@6.3 volts, etc. I assume that the diameter must be equal or smaller, depending on spacing. I also wonder about the heat issues with polymer capacitors rather than electrolytic. My apologies if this question has already been posted.
Thanks all,
Lance

Question about polymer caps.
Hi all,
I've looked through the forums and I can't find the information I need. Is there a rule of thumb about replacing electrolytic caps with polymers and what are the benefits, if any. Mods, please feel free to move this to the appropriate section if it is out of place. Thanks for the help, I do appreciate it.

Re: IBM 49P1599 Rev 1.1
You can's go lower on the voltage if the originals are on the 12 volt rail. Otherwise, you've created a small ticking timebomb. Personally I'd try again with the same capacitance and voltage if possible. Good luck.

Re: Antec TruePower 2.0 480W
I'm glad it's out of your PC. Anyone here can recap them and they should last for some time. I've found that replacing some of the output caps can be a pain in the you know what. Good luck!

Stavr0,
I'd check on the issue much sooner than later. Jumping power supplies is not my idea of fun, especially if it takes out other components.

Questions about motherboard testing
Hi all,
After reviewing Akor's guide on testing the vrm's, I have a few questions and please forgive my stupidity on this issue. Step 3a says to measure the resistance from the output of the VRM to the load supply pin. Where is the output of the VRM exactly, and how do I judge where it is on any motherboard? I have an Intel D865 PERL and the lights are on, but nobody's home, and I'm trying to figure out the problems. Also, on each FET, there are 3 legs. Long legs are on each side and a shortleg in the middle that is not connected to anything. What is the procedure for testing these?...

Re: Intel Board with problems.
Finally I got back to it and began checking everything that I could think of. Still dead, and I'm afraid that there's no putting back the magical smoke. The card I used is not exactly a port 80 card, although it does register where in the post the cpu/board combo is. The card can be found at http://www.uxd.com It's a PCI something and was around $1000, U.S. I've found it invaluable for many other diagnostic situations and it's picked up the most odd or unique things in systems that I never thought would be possible. Pleace all, and have...

Re: Is the Weller Wesd51 a good station?
I personally have one and I've found it invaluable for most of the things I need to repair. Make certain that you have tip cleaner and the brass wool thingy, yes thingy is the proper term, and you should be fine. I have only not been able to desolder caps on one board, and that was a Tyan dual socket A something. It had too many layers I believe. If you need to contact me, you may e-mail me at lthornto@tampabay.rr.com I would be happy to help you with questions or concerns if I can. Good luck!Re: Is the Weller Wesd51 a good

Re: Abit BP6 worth keeping?
I found one with very bad caps. Recapped it with Rubys and all is well. I've never used it since. It is nice to look at though....
