    Recap motherboards :: Abit KG7-LITE and Soltek SL-75FRN2-L

    Hi all

    Hope this is in the correct place.

    I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
    Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

    Pictures of the boards are attached.
    What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

    Soltek Golden ::
    4 1500µF 16V 10mm (5mmL) KZG => APSG160ELL152MJ16S (Chemi-Con 1500µF 16V)
    6 3300µF 6.3V 10mm (5mmL) KZG => APSG160ELL272MJ20S (Chemi-Con 2700µF 16V)
    1 1000pF 3kv ceramic => 564R30GAD10 (Vishay 3kv 1000pF 20%)

    Abit Lite socket A ::
    6 4700µF 6.3V 12mm => APSG160ELL272MJ20S (Chemi-Con 2700µF 16V)
    9 1500µF 6.3v 8mm => RNU0J122MDN1KX (Nichicon 1200µF 6.3V)
    2 2200µF 6.3v 10mm => APSG160ELL222MJ20S (Chemi-Con 2200µF 16V)

    It was cheaper for me to order the 16V versions, unless there is a reason these were cheaper that I missed on first glance.
    I tried to keep as close as possible to the original capacitance. Only the Abit 4700µF to be replaced with 2700µF might be close?

    Also, if I were to have gone with for example Panasonic FR's. Would the boards also work, but for example have less overhead for overclocking or similar? I have seen people recap with FR's without issue, while others condemn (hard words) of using them to replace KZG series.
    For a novice as myself, its hard to know which direction to follow.

    Final question, more practical. The golden board has some pads missing on the backside of the boards where a capacitator used to be. If I google'd correctly, the actual connection is made inside the "tube" in the board? And not just the small circle pads on the back of the pcb?

    Thanks!

    on the soltek the 16v caps are smoothing the 12v from the psu and FR would be fine,
    the 6.3v ones are the cpu vrm and i would have used polymer caps.
    why are you replacing the ceramic cap though?

      Thanks for the reply!

      So for the Soltek the Chemi-cons should be fine, if a bit overkill for the 16V ones.
      Regarding the ceramic, its not visible on this picture. But the other side somehow has a huge deep scratch on it at the top. Its the only 'damage' on the board. So I rather just replace it.
      Kept the original one, have not measured it. I figured to just replace it for the couple of cents it costs to purchase a new one.

        On the Abit, it looks like the two closest to the AGP slot are connected to 5V from the PSU. FR would also work there. Depending on what the original caps were, they might even work for all six locations.

          I would consider replacing the 1000uf around the RAM area of the Soltek board. I've a thread a few spots down with many nforce 2 boards needing those changed out.

            Might want to consider the ones near the other cored coils on each board, as they could be AGP or RAM VRM

              Thanks for the update guys. I recapped the Abit board with succes. And will check to order some caps to replace those around the memory and near the cored coils as suggested.
              The Golden board was already sold dead, and i hoped recapping is would bring back some life. But it stays .. dead . Completely dead. I do have another one that actually lives (a later revision) that I will recap. And on that board all caps around the memory modules are indeed leaking.

              Thanks for all the input.

                Any track damage, looks like the chipset had a heatsink and sometimes scrappers butcher it taking that off. Can you get a reader / programmer for that style of BIOS chip. How dead was it, it's unlikely that badcaps (unless shorted) would prevent ATX power on, not even sure if a bad BIOS would prevent power on as it's not actually running code at that point

                  it may be a bad tiny electrolytic in the supervisor/reset circuit
                  try manually resetting with the header pins

                    Abit NF7-S v2 Recap - Not posting
                    by tomalamix
                    Hy everyone,

                    New around here but I've been reading a lot from several threads around here.

                    I have between hands an old Abit mobo, the NF7-S v2. It was working until a few years ago, but then started to start-up only sometimes and now doesnt start up at all.

                    The red light comes on with the PSU connected and the green light comes on too when i turn it on but no joy, it doesnt POST, no beeps, just the green led comes ON.

                    I've tried changing 5 capacitors so far, 5x Rubycoon 6.3V 3300uF that are around the CPU, no joy, same thing, no POST and green...

                    no-name Radeon 9600 XT recap and cooler

                    I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

                    This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire....

                    After updating motherboard capacitors, what to do next (Asrock K7VT2, SOLTEK SL-75FRN2L)
                    by dragon3x
                    Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
                    power on.

                    Here are some examples :

                    (N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
                    switching supply area).
                    (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
                    than 6.3 V.)

                    1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
                    I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
                    3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...

                    Xbox 1.6 Motherboards and Polymer Capacitors
                    by qwerty99
                    Hello!

                    I need to change the capacitors on my three original Xboxes.

                    Two of them are 1.6B revisions and have Hynix RAM, and the other one is a 1.6 with Samsung RAM.

                    The 1.6 has the infamous Nichicon HM capacitors around the CPU, which have all bulged and started to leak. This Xbox no longer powers on.

                    The 1.6B revisions have Rubycon MBZ capacitors that all look fine, but I’ll change them in due course. Both of these work fine.

                    I’ve seen some excellent threads on the forum about replacing/upgrading capacitors, but I can’t...

                    ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
                    by momaka
                    Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
                    This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

                    So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

                    CPU VRM area up close…...
