    ECS and OST

    Hi folks,
I have a quick question. I have a few ECS boards some S462 and other 478. They used OST caps on them, pretty much exclusively.
My question is this. On some boards they have popped, on others they haven't. ARE OST BOUND TO FAIL?
Should I just replace them without question? Even if the board works well?

If you have experience with this I would love to hear from you!

    Re: ECS and OST

My ECS s478 has survived the couple of months I've been using it, and the small OST on my Asus mobo have not bulged yet. If you experience any problems, I would change them whether they are bulging or not, just to be safe.

I've had two ECS made boards, both s462, SiS 730s chipset: an ECS branded K7SEM v3, and a PCChips M810LR. Both of them use OST for VRM and G-Luxon on the lower half of the board, and caps didn't kill the former and haven't killed the latter.

In addition, my Biostar M7VIG 400 also has mostly OST caps, and they're all fine so far. I used it for about 10 months, and installed it again about three weeks ago, and it's stable - in fact, I'm posting this on it.
You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.
Why I don't buy cheap cases!

It is possible that OST has changed their stripes? I want to sell these boards in systems but I don't like selling junk. I want to confident that what I'm selling will at least come close to outliving it's usefullness and be reliable.

Is it possible that I leave the OST alone or... just replace them out.

I have sold a system with K7s5a pro too in a office box with a 700mhz Duron. I have not replaced the ost caps, as they usually are not that bad, if at least the psu does not have mediocre caps. So i used a recaped (Rubycon caps) FSP psu and have not got i back since them. Ok, if i would have sold it with a 3200+ cpu, i woud not have been that confident in leaving them. Any way, if you have caps and can compensate the effort, replace them if not, it should last several years (but not necesarily 24/7).
