• 820-02020 a2338 - U0500 SEP EEPROM

    Hi all,

what´s the purpose of U0500 ROM located next to the M1 SOC? It seems to be somehow bound to the SN of the board. If I replace it with same IC from other a2338, it´s starting up in recovery mode and DFU fails (Error 9 most of the time, tried many times). If I put on the original U0500 I´m still in recovery, but can perform DFU and everything works fine again.

Is there a way to replace this IC without having the original one available? Unfortunately I cannot find any information about this ROM and it´s function..

    Thanks

  • a2251 820-01949 - reboot issues

    Hi,

acc. to owner the macbook suddenly died for no reason. 20V but no s5 state.
Board looks clean, no damage at all. Thermal cam shows hot T2 and PMIC.

After DFU restore it was working again, but I´m not able to install MacOS because it always reboots (most of the time it shuts off during recovery mode loading screen, sometimes I can get into recovery and even format SSD, but latest after trying to install MacOS it shuts off again). --> Screen turns black, fan blow at full speed for one second --> macbook reboots

    Any Ideas?

    After some more testing:

PP5V_S2SW_USBC01 and PP5V_S2SW_USB23 are both 0V because enable is missing (P5VUSBC01_EN and P5VUSBC23_EN, both coming from the CD3217.. ). Acc. To schematic this is critical.
No matter if powered up via magsafe or each USB port, it's always missing. Could this be the reason maybe? Unfortunately I don't have a working board to compare.

Maybe this also explains the power cycling of the USB-C meter.. I once read this is always related to an issue with the...

Doesn´t make any difference with battery installed. Still cycling every 10s and still showing battery warning sign.

Battery is fully funktional and also charging when connected.

  • 820-02098 - a2442 - power cycling

    Hi all,

I have a a2442 with liquid damage mainly at Q5800 and UF800 area. But nothing serious. Also corrosion and burn marks at both USB-C ports (the ones below the magsafe connector). I cleaned all up and replaced the bad USB-C ports.

Ampmeter shows 20V and 0,13A for around 10 seconds and then the Ampmeter reboots. Same behavior on every port.

When reassembled in housing the display lights up and shows battery warning sign, so at least it´s doing something. But only for 10 seconds..

Any idea where to look at? First suspect was...

Board looks like new, just like the whole Macbook. So no liquid or drop damage. Any way to measure/confirm a CPU/PCH related issue?...

Boot from USB is blocked by security settings and I´m not able to change it in recovery mode (no admin account found, which is necessary. And not able to install new account because of reboot issue..). So I guess this is no option here...

  • a1932 820-01521 - SSD issues

    Hi all,

I got an a1932 13" Air with SSD issues.

It was booting to logon screen without issues but reboots after some seconds. It also reboots just before recovery mode is fully loaded, so no recovery access was possible.

    Board looks clean.

I tried DFU revive, SMC and PRAM reset with no success. So I finally did DFU restore. Accessing recovery is now possible, also deleting SSD was possible with no errors ( but took longer than normal ). But right after starting MacOS install, it reboots again.

    I´ld like...

I nailed it down to PPVDD_S0_CPU not being present. Measuring 4Ohm which looks good compared to other board.

I also took a closer look at U7100 and U7210/7220 which are creating this rail:

DFU restore and revive didn´t change anything.

I also checked the power on sequence diagram. PM_PCH_SYS_PWROK is the last entry. So if this signal is present, everything else during power on sequence should also be fine, right?

My guess would be a CPU related problem, but I don´t know how to check if CPU is working fineRe: 820-01598 stuck at 20V 0.175A

I´m working on a a2159 which doesn´t start anymore. It is stuck at 20v@0.175A. All_SYS_PWRGD is present. PM_PCH_SYS_PWROK is also present. CPU gets warm. I also get some fan spin, but nothing else happens.

No waterdamage, board looks very clean.

History is water damage, no more information.

slight corrosion on one of the CD3217 surrounding SMDs and on touch bar connector. Looks like water only got on the left side of the board.

Main corrosion was on touch bar connector (touch bar display is working, but touch function is not working)

Every part of the board is original. Nothing replaced yet.

I also reviewed your link but couldn´t find anything helpful.

Sounds like the same issue, but also no final conclusion.

I'm able to enter DFU but not able to finish both revive or restore. It always shows an error when trying to install.

When connected to 20v supply and/or battery: can not finish due to reboot loop. Error 9

When connected only to 5v only (usb A to C cable) there is no reboot loop or voltage drop, but also no SSD voltage present-> also no DFU update possible. Error 4042

PP3V3_G3H rail is not affected by voltage drop. It has 3.3v constantly.
PP5V_G3S is slowly fading from 5v to 4.7v every 30s (for about 2s, afterwards it jumps back to 5v).
