    help help...

    ok here is a copy of a post i did on another site and didnt get it figured out... lemme know what ya think...

    Ok well... in a nut shell I can be doing just about anything, sometimes it takes 5 minuites, sometimes all day, but this computer has been hanging, i dont really know what to call it really. My HDD light stays lit, fan on the cpu stops, but the fan in the power supply keeps turning... monitor signal is cut as well, being when it happens, he's always 'going to sleep' .. anyway.. any ideas? like a hjt log? how can i enable a boot log / crash log. just the normal windows boot logging? the ones i get all seem ok, and it seems to run just fine in the 'dos like' windows recovery console... i want to know if this is a motherboard issue or a power supply problem... can i check the leads with a multimeter? additionaly if i get another motherboard i'll have to do a repair install i would think and my 'disc' is just a partition on my hdd and i cant get to it now.. and with a new motherboard will it see my partition ? computer wont stay running long enough to run anything in safe mode or anything... i just dont know where to start.. ideas ?

    2.5Ghz P4 1024 Ram 478 socket
    BFG Nvidia fx 5500/oc pci
    SB Live 24 Bit Sound

    same caps i have are bulging also the 2 next to the 4 pin connector are bluging a little...

      Your last statement answered your own question.
      Your motherbd is in need of some new capacitors.

          well my next question is the caps are 6.3v 1500 uf,,, as long as they are all low esr caps i should be ok right ? roughly the same size ? additionally would all those caps go bad together like that? is that normal? is a psu causing this?

              What model of caps are we talking about, if you can't see the name a picture would help...

              Generally if it is not one of the "good" cap brands you have to exchange all caps of the same type, because they will eventually fail too...

                      It is essential that you check the power supply for bad caps as well. Any 10V caps can be replaced with 6.3V. The supplies on the board are either 12V or 5v and less. Clearly any 10V cap is not being used on 12 V.

                          well my biggest question is this.... physical damage to caps is generally easy to see.. but would say a leaky cap in the powersupply cause the others to fail? And additionally I can't say I've seen any 10V caps... yet..

                              A bad cap in PS will stress Mb caps. Unfortunately not all caps show external symptoms of failure. You need to check PS for bad cap brands.

                                  will they very as much as the caps do on same model # units ? ATX-250-12Z Rev D Bestec... is what is in there now..

                                      Variation of caps is best checked in every power supply. Look for recognised bad brands.

                                          post the brand/model of your problem instead of help help.
                                          you are more likely to get help if someone here has had the same issue and resolved it.

                                          all the bestec brand psu i have seen have been junk.several models used in evilmachines are the root cause of motherboard death. +5 stby goes high and kills the mobo.

                                          visibly bad caps are the first thing to correct in your situation.

                                              hello everyone,
                                              I had a couple few 2018 Mac minis come in from a local church, the majority of them showed no life and it was no issue DFU and recover the ibridge software.

                                              I have this last one that has been recovered, immediately goes to Internet recovery downloads and then reboots and goes right back to Internet recovery. OR there have been times it would reboot bring up Apple logo and the progress bar but it would never start populating that progress bar and we just hang there.

                                              I have tried every conceivable method including trying to boot to an external macOS...

                                              I’ve been running Windows 7 for a year with only one partition Local Disk C:

                                              Yesterday I was exploring old hard drives I found via Sata to USB adapter where one incident a blue screen popped up saying hardware failure and to reboot.

                                              After rebooting I then noticed another partition under windows explorer System Reserved E: that says 71.4bm free of 99.9mb but it’s empty when I try to explore the contents. I have the option to show hidden files turned on as well.

                                              Anyone know why this seemed to pop up out of no where and if it can be deleted?

                                              I believe Chip 2 is BIN is the main one as it contained the Windows product key, marked with XXXXX for now.

                                              PROBLEM: Turns on blank screen, charging circuitry motherboard looks good. I have tried another firmware here - but resulted in 5V will not go to 20v due to different PD firmware I believe - using the current firmware it does go to 20V.

                                              Requesting a firmware clean/BIOS region cleaned. Here is output from ME Analyzer:

                                              I bought a second hand Mid 2014 A1398 MacBook Pro when I lived in Australia. I'd bought it as a back-up machine because I had a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro, and realising it might one day fail, I wanted a backup machine because I don't like change.

                                              Two weeks after buying MBP2, the seller called me to check if everything was OK with the unit, which I thought was odd. At that stage I might have turned it on a couple of times, but I'd not used it when he'd called. Over the last few years I used the machine seldomly because my original mac has been pretty OK. Every 3-6 months I'd charge it...
