    Crucial MX500 2TB

    Hello badcaps community,

My Crucial MX500 2.5" SSD died suddenly. It's not recognized in bios, disk manager or even with a USB adapter.
I gently unmounted the disk and I noticed 2 discolored inductors:

Above a new one found on the internet and below it's my SSD, we can notice the 2 discolored inductors circled in red

I also found this video on youtube where the technician works exactly on the same board revision (23-A1). He also has an inductors in bad shape but it seems that he needed to remove a faulty capacitors to make the disk recognized again.

I'm not as equipped as him but I have a multimeter. I used it in continuity mode to find shorted capacitors using ground from the sata 15 pin connector (4th pin from the left). I found those circled in red:

The problem is these capacitors are really small and I'm not equipped to desolder and resolder them to check which one is responsible for the short. I just have a T12 KSGER iron soldering station.

Also I don't have a thermal camera nor a power supply to inject voltage on the board and find a heat spot as the technician did in the video. I tried to plug in to my USB adapter but I didn't feel any heat spot with my fingers.

I would be very grateful for your help.

    How old is the drive?

I've bought the exact same drive off Amazon the other day, and died within minutes of me using it. I formatted and attempted to copy some data, then locked up. I have tried multiple computers and it didn't detect the drive. Got it replaced and guess what? The replacement did the same thing!

Will have to get a refund, not going to bother trying a 3rd one.

Got a Samsung EVO instead (which I should've done from the start) - no problems.

Must be a bad batch going around atm.

I bought the drive in November 2021 and solved the issue by desoldering the shorted cap using this video as a guide.

        PS5 Disk Tray issues.
        by welp
I have a PlayStation 5 CH-1215A with a Disk drive not reading disks anymore. (accepting and ejecting very slowly.)
Knowing the PS5 has a married daughter board for the disk drive I made sure to use that and replace the rest of the disk tray as it* was owned previously by an indoor smoker.
Once the job was complete and put back everything together, I tried to insert a disk with no luck at all...
So, I checked voltage going from the ps5 to the daughter board and am only getting the 5V rail.
With that knowledge I preceded to check all the fuses for the 12v rail on the main...

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
        by DynaxSC
        Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
        • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
        • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket

DAY11AM6E0 hard disk drive and optical disk drive not detected

Today recieved hp model 17-f100nx laptop with no power.(motherboard=DAY11AMB6E0) after that repaired +1.05v section due to faulty buck converter.after that power issue fixed and laptop turns on.But "no bootable 3f0 error displayed".so then

i checked the connectivity of ribbon=good communication with hard and motherboard

changed hard disk and checked=3f0 error persist

        sata power=+5v available

        Then checked data capacitors=all good

Then checked data lines path connectivity to pch=all good

LG GCC-4521B cannot read any disk
        by chth96
I bought 6 second hands odd $5 at a flea market and I found that 2 odd(GCC-4521B,TS-H192) won't read any disk.
But I measured all ESR value of SMD capacitor which is located on the TS-H192's PCB and replaced two capacitor which has higher ESR value.
And To My joy, this TS-H192 odd finally recognized burned CD as well as pressed CD.😂
But there was no more good fortune for GCC-4521B..In order to dead GCC-4521B back to life, I replaced three capacitor which has higher ESR value and I rubbed silicon grease on the every glides.I even brushed lens with cotton swab which was soaked...

Intel iMacs, 3rd party SSD failures and Fusion setups
        by reformatt
I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...
