    KM400-M REV 1.0B Socket 462. Replace capacitors.

I got a bluescreen error in Windows Vista Ultimate and after a restart i got Bios checksum error and A: error. I do not have a A: drive. Now the screen only is black, the fans and harddrives start but the screen is black. I tried my graphic card in another computer and it worked. I also tried to remove the memorys. Can it be the bios or caps? It start with the bad caps but no screen is visable. There are 6 bad 6.3v 1000uf. I got 6.3v 1500uf but i guess these won't go?

    too much dirt!
    clean the board.

then we can look into the caps

I took 5 off. Sanyo are 1,2/8mm 6.3v 1000uf. KZG are 1.9/8mm 1500uf. Can kzg work with higher uf? I got an answer from a friend:KZG is actually a line from Nippon Chemi-Con, and Nippon basically makes the best caps you can find. While if possible you'd want to use the exact same specs (both voltage and capacitance), when not so you always want to use slightly higher rated for both (too big caps take too long to charge/discharge and may desync something). If the component height and width both don't have clearance issues with any other part, you may use it just fine.

I did not find Sanyo only PoiLee Capacitor 1000uF 6.3V, Radial Electrolytic Capacitor 1000uf 105 C 8x12mm (Pack of 10pcs). Same green and gold color.

I guess i can try the bigger 1500uf to see if the screen starts? Otherwise it may be something else

I tried but no screen starts, the fans are spinning. Should i try a multimeter to see what others caps that can be wrong? Someone told me that the bios chip is rarely the fault. In fact i have a IDE ports that disconnetcs the hard drive when it is in master ide, it only works in slave ide. Can that port be broken maybe the agp port can be that to. I also think there is a problem with the port to the 3 pin chassi fan.

i think you need to clean it!
dirt like that can effect the card and ram slots
the bigger caps should be fine.

where did you get that board?
near the cmos jumper it looks like somebody desoldered a crystal!!!

Can't just put a random set of capacitors on there, ESR matters.

You got a point i got much dirt under the ram slots, don't know how to reach it. I have had it on since 2006. I only have had it off for in total maybe one month, when various things got broken. Two harddrives have i replaced since then. I did it as a test to see what it could take. I got one problem with the master ide slot as it turns of the harddrive, i guess it is broken, the slave ide on the motherboard works. One of the chassi fans connector only gives light to the fan, the other chassi fans 3 pin connector gives power and light. The built in graphics don't work. It seems to be all from all years. I have replaced 3 psu, i bought a new in december last year. I had not any problem with it since then, could have it on for months without problem until now. Can i have wrong ESR on my 1000uf caps that i replaced with 1500uf?

Re: KM400-M REV 1.0B Socket 462. Replace capacitors.

OK, let's start the troubleshooting process in a little more organized matter here.

For starters, I see mostly good brands of caps on this motherboard. The green ones are Sanyo. Looks like they are all bulging, though. This being an old socket 462 motherboard, I don't think they are from the WF series, which are known to be problematic. If somehow they are, you need to replace all of them. To me, these look more like WG or maybe WX series (though IIRC, WX uses gray font for their text.) WG are generally very stable... so for them to bulge like this, I suspect there may have been something else going on. Same with the Panasonic caps, which look like either FJS or FJ series, though it's harder for me to tell if these are bulged or just look like that from the picture.

In any case, I have to ask: was the motherboard ever subjected to a really high temperature for a really long time or reflowed in an oven? I really don't see why else these would be bulging.

If you can / have the time, do as stj suggested and clean the motherboard. Best way to do it is to wash it with soap and water (remove CMOS battery first, along with CPU heatsink and CPU.) Let dry for at least a few days under the sun or in an airy place. Then take some pictures of the entire board and post them here.

There's no point in doing any other tests, especially with power, until the cap situation gets resolved. A motherboard with even one bad cap in the wrong spot can cause it to not POST or work properly.

I don't see any KZG caps on your motherboard.
Are you intending to replace some with KZG? If yes, I don't recommend it. KZG series are known to be problematic, or at least the older ones.

Sanyo is now Suncon. But avoid buying Suncon anywhere online except for known part sources like Digikey, Mouser, RS, and etc. Otherwise, you might buy counterfeit caps. My suggestion is to go with other Japanese brands that might be easier to find / get. Rubycon ZL, ZLH and Panasonic FR, FM, and FS series are pretty much good enough for replacing any of the caps on these older motherboards.

                    Vizio M60-C3 Replacing 1000uF 16V with 1000uF 35V capacitors?
                    by frannyjunk
Hi, my Vizio M60-C3 does not power on. No lights whatsoever. Upon opening up the TV, the power supply board has 4 bulging capacitors. Each is 1000uF 16V. I have read that one can use capacitors of the same uF and higher voltage rating, but is 1000uF 35V capacitor too high of a voltage rating? My local shop only has these higher voltage capacitors so would rather just buy the 35V variety if it is OK to use them.

Any thoughts if OK to use these higher voltage capacitors?

Opinions/Advice on Do/Should I replace ALL Electrolytic Capacitors on old equipment?
                    by RetroComputingGrotto
I've just been repairing some (very) old speakers with a loud hum that occurred as soon as you powered them on regardless if any actual audio is played through them. I work in a School so it's 99% likey that the Teachers have hardly ever turned the power off on them for well over 10+ years.

As you can see the top large capacitor on the right has a bulge on the top so defincately needs replacing. As the one next to it is exactly the same capacity and voltage I planned to replace them both.

What is your advice/opinion on whether or not on old(er)...

Hi, i need some help Please.
Does someone have Board-view or Schematic PDF for the MSI X670e Gaming Plus WiFi Motherboard.

If it helps I’m currently looking for the Components behind the the AM5 Socket.

                    Thanks in Advance....

I just bought some 1000uF 10v capacitors from eBay to fix my Samsung 2220WM, but it seems like they are already bulging? Are they ok to use? Thanks....

The switch has served me for 10+ years (was new when I bought it). It's a nice switch with connections on the back which makes for quite a clean desk. Reason for taking it apart was that the cooling fan was noisy so I expected it to be dirty/dusty inside and the need to order a new fan. What I found was that it was very dirty/dusty and some electrolytic capacitors which needs attention. There are 3 capacitors which needs to be replaced but the ESR on some of the other ones might be bad as well so I think I'll replace them all. Original...
