    The amazing LinkSYS WAP54G

Whoever said linksys was junk was probably right, but this one sure earned its stripes!!

I have 2 of these configured in a wireless bridge, it provides internet access from my shop to my house. I was moving some things around, tripped over the cat5 cable, pulling the WAP down to the floor, then the switch fell on it. The switch is a nortel 350-24T (old school, big and heavy). The impact broke the WAP in two. My foot was still caught in the cat5 cable, and I pulled away, which ripped the antenna wires off the PCB and one of the wires out of the antenna base. After a few cuss words, I grabbed up all the parts and started to toss them into the trash.....when I realized that I won't have internet at my house until I get a replacement. Noplace local would have any of these, so I'd have to order one, which means an even longer wait......so I cobbed it together.

The front switch is crushed, I just moved things out of the way so the switch wasn't making contact (has no useful purpose anyway). The case was destroyed, I just tossed it in the trash (the heavy Nortel switch was completely unharmed). The hard part was separating that TINY ASS coaxial cable from the shielding and getting to the core, and then soldering it back to the PCB. The broken antenna base was even more of a cob job, as sticking the core lead back into the base wasn't working. There's no way to access the spot where it attaches internally, so I removed the antenna from the base and did it the old fashioned way......

Anyway, at the end of the mission, this thing works again......and it shouldn't be. Probably one of my top 5 worst ghetto rigs, but we do what we must until a replacement arrives. This post was made through it!!

    Some pics of the glory:

As much as I hate linksys and their flaky garbage, this one is still working when it should not be. Gotta salute this bad boy!

^ I did.....but I havent wired it all into the cabinet yet.

KC8, I didnt see the need to recap it yet, didn't know if it was going to survive. I've got some replacements coming, and I'll recap the other one as well.

Never tried modding one, I'd have to do some homework on that....... Got the WAP's because they were $5.00ea at a yard sale, matching pair still in the shrinkwrap. Couldn't pass that up, had them 3 years now.

At least there's good ventilation in there now. Who knows, maybe those Taicon caps will last even longer.

I scored a lot of 5 of these off ebay for $40 shipped. 2 of them have upgraded antennas on them. a quick preventative recap and the frankenWAP will be officially retired.

Because once the cabinet is wired, I'll actually use the WAP's as access points as they're intended for my laptops and other wireless devices.

I don't think they are so bad, I use them in the roof at work with power over ethernet and have never had a issue with any of them.

The franken WAP is officially decomissioned. The 5 ebay wonders came today. recapped them all (only one had bloaters), and all are working. Wireless bridge is back to normal, and there's several access points throughout the shop and house for the lappies.

the wrt54g just makes me hot thinking about it, we still have lots of modded linksys routers for our indoor relay customers at work, they are clunky but fast and easy to get into, they are flashed with our software and the internet port is rendered inactive and we disable the wifi part of it.

                                          Micro Momentary Push Switch?
                                          by Natob82
Great to be here! I'm a newbie here trying to find a "micro", momentary push switch to repair a Sony "clamshell" video walkman. This micro switch has long since discontinued by Sony, however I hope there are third-party switches of the same size and functionality that I might be able to source to play the same role. The purpose of this switch is to tell the video walkman that the user has activated the mechanical tape eject button, turning that physical action into an electronic signal that tells the tape transport mechanism to open so one can load or eject a video tape. I...

NEC TurboExpress On/Off Power Switch Replacement Help
                                          by grimacelord
                                          Hello,

I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....

Help making a switch work the opposite way with a relay
                                          by SluggerB
I have a very small float switch, I'm using in a very small tank. It only fits in one way. Link https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Switch.../dp/B07DZ1J2GB

I want the switch to be open when the water is high, and closed when the water is low. Unfortunately it works the opposite. And since this switch is designed to be underwater, it's all sealed up, there is no taking it apart or hacking it up.

It will be driving a water pump, basic idea, when the water is low, switch closes, which turns on water pump, when enough water is in the tank, float switch floats,...
