Whoever said linksys was junk was probably right, but this one sure earned its stripes!!
I have 2 of these configured in a wireless bridge, it provides internet access from my shop to my house. I was moving some things around, tripped over the cat5 cable, pulling the WAP down to the floor, then the switch fell on it. The switch is a nortel 350-24T (old school, big and heavy). The impact broke the WAP in two. My foot was still caught in the cat5 cable, and I pulled away, which ripped the antenna wires off the PCB and one of the wires out of the antenna base. After a few cuss words, I grabbed up all the parts and started to toss them into the trash.....when I realized that I won't have internet at my house until I get a replacement. Noplace local would have any of these, so I'd have to order one, which means an even longer wait......so I cobbed it together.
The front switch is crushed, I just moved things out of the way so the switch wasn't making contact (has no useful purpose anyway). The case was destroyed, I just tossed it in the trash (the heavy Nortel switch was completely unharmed). The hard part was separating that TINY ASS coaxial cable from the shielding and getting to the core, and then soldering it back to the PCB. The broken antenna base was even more of a cob job, as sticking the core lead back into the base wasn't working. There's no way to access the spot where it attaches internally, so I removed the antenna from the base and did it the old fashioned way......
Anyway, at the end of the mission, this thing works again......and it shouldn't be. Probably one of my top 5 worst ghetto rigs, but we do what we must until a replacement arrives. This post was made through it!!
Some pics of the glory:

As much as I hate linksys and their flaky garbage, this one is still working when it should not be. Gotta salute this bad boy!
