Hey I need some help with my Gateway as well. The screen won't stay lit so I'm assuming it's the inverter board.

    Hi
    That is an oldie !!
You do have at least one bad capacitor that I can see.
It is at the bottom left corner of the first picture.
I cant see the rest of the power supply or the main board to see if any others have obvious issues.

ripped which tiny cable ?? the power button one ? and if it is this one, did you rip it at the power button board end or the main board end end or in the middle ?

I'm thinking mine is beyond repair. Any thoughts based on these pics? Also, despite the warnings, I ripped the tiny ribbon cable right off the frame/ Any way to repair/replace that?

I would stick to the voltages originally used
Just look for something with good amp and hour rating at 105 degrees
Like I said the 1000x25 is the one that usually fails first, so especially on this one

    4-5-6-7 1000x10 (10mmx16)
    8-1000x25 (12.5mmx20)
    next to #8 680x25 (10mmx20mm)
last one by audio jack- 470x25 (10mmx16mm)

My problem is that the capacitors were removed before their values were written down. Don't ask me why, i wasn't the one who did it. Only the power board.

I have marked which capacitors were removed. Now i need to know values of those. I know i need low esr, good quality ones. Does someone knows the values and can write them here?

    power supply ?
Only one on the power supply commonly fails
the 1000x25 that is next to the 680x25
    then there ate 4 1000x10 and 3 470x35
plus the main and two startup caps which I do not remember on top of my head so I would have to go look but it's probably and 10x50 and 47x50

main board has a couple that go 100x16 and they are near the 1.8 d-pak voltage regulator that also has issues

Perhaps if you post a good clear picture of your boards - mark the caps you know
with one colour and put in the values. Mark the caps or positions of the ones you dont know in another colour. If you are saying you have removed the caps and dont know where they go then make a list of the caps you have got with any description you can read
and their dimensions - height width.

Also you need to state whet exactly the problem is , in the first 8 posts there are different problems.

Sorry for digging this up but i have similar problem and didn't want to make another thread. Does anyone got info which capacitor has what value? Mine was barely readable so i'm now not sure about the values. Info with picture would be great, thanks in advance

I have very similar symptoms as the original post. I'm going to peruse the rest of the pages and forum as well because I'm looking for a specific part. Not sure what type of part it is and what its specs are. It is located in position D851 (it's located between the big heat-sinks with the rubber on top, in that corner).

I'm a newb to electronics, however my old man is not. He is replacing all the bad caps (and there's a never ending list of those) and could hopefully ID that part himself. I'm just doing some due diligence on his behalf -- because after all he's helping me out

Anyway if any of you could shed some light I would greatly appreciate it. Even if you tell me I can find a schematic on Google I won't be mad .. if its out there I'll try to find it.

I've used this monitor with similar symptoms for for 3-4 years. It STILL works but the symptoms are getting worse so I figured its time I get it fixed, or replaced. I really do like this monitor thou I have to say.

Give it a try and see how the photo turns out.... you will not need a magnifying glass to see the detail on the board, but it does work for me.

I use ACDsee as a photo viewer and editor that works great for viewing the files produced.

Too bad this forum didn't continue this is one of the best forums i had come across, really knowledgeable input from so many.

I think so this as the person who initially wanted help hasn't been back on for a few months.

Never seen a board scanned in before.

As to high resolution photos for personal use, I have found that for real close inspection of board and components. I use my scanner for documents do an excellent job, if you only need a head on photo of the units. But this results in a monster file size, at higher resolution scans like 2400.

How do we convert a set of numbers on the original component, to a useable number to find on digikey or mouser website when trying to locate parts? Is there a conversion book available for this purpous?

This is trying to explain why all the mosfets show shorted
If you removed all the GM9985 mosfets from the inverter, With the Inverter capacitors discharged.
Touch one lead of the ohmmeter to either positive lead of the inverter capacitors and the other ohmmeter lead to source pins 1-2-3 of the pads on the inverter you will read 0 ohms.
Now touch the negative lead to the negative lead of one of the inverter capacitors, and the other lead to the drain pins 4-5-6 you will also read 0 ohms.
When these Mosfets short it's usually source to gate, so one shorted Mosfet will affect the reading on all of them.
I would bet if one mosfet fails they should be replaced in pairs.

0-400 ohms is the low range on that meter. The clamp isn't used for resistance readings. Touch the probes together to figure out the lead resistance first, then subtract that from the actual reading.

Never used a clamp meter. I figure as long you can connect to each pin, you should be fine. I was just trying to find out if you had tested the G-D and S-D in anything other than the Ω 0.0 setting. Sounds like Q1 and Q2 are shorted. Q3 and Q4 are a mystery.

Thanks for clearing that up, for some reason ground was on my mind even though I had the data sheet up.

Unfortunately I don't have a meter that allows me to set to 20 ohms, I have this clamp meter: http://www.idealindustries.com/prodD...1=clamp_meters

It has a function button that allows me to change from Ω to the following with each button press:

    K Ω 0.000
    K Ω 0.00
    K Ω 0.0
    M Ω 0.000
    M Ω 0.00
    Ω 0.0

I tested S-G on the Ω 0.0 setting, but had to switch to K or M settings to get any reading off Q4. Do I need a multimeter that allows me to set to 20 ohms to properly test the mosfets? Or will this clamp meter be able to get the job done? Thanks.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
    by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

    Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.

The monitor is HP 27es LED Monitor

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
    by Rick_1234
    Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Wise Wing F199 19'' LCD monitor - recapped
    by momaka
Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
