Dell 19" Trinitron CRT gone blue?

    Hello Everyone,

I recently got myself a 19" Dell "Made in Japan", Trinitron CRT display. The picture is beautiful, crisp and clear... except one problem... the images are kinda blue? a bit too blue I suppose?
Seeing as this is a Trinitron display, on pale and dark backgrounds I can see horizontal swirls from the rear shadow mask... but that isn't the big problem... I just want to know why the hell there's a blue tint to everything.

    Thanks.

Maybe the blue electron gun is emitting more because of a fault in the circuitry that controls it. If you don't know how to service it, the simplest thing to do would be to decrease the blue using your gamma correction for your computer's video card.

Well now that I look at it, it looks very "washed out"... where can I get these Gamma control tools?

depends on who your card manufacturer is. Usually just in the control panel that comes with the drivers.

That requires sony's DAS software and cable. Those settings are controlled by an eprom thats not accessible through the monitor's menu system.

Most Trinitrons have a feature called "Color Return." This will show up in the menu only after the monitor has warmed up and been powered on for a half hour or so, so you'll need to disable power management or keep it active that long. I attached an image of the menu on my Dell P1130. The location in your menu may vary, but it gives you an idea of the icon to look for. Running that will self calibrate the monitor's color and brightness levels. It takes about 15 seconds will do lots of flashing and things in the process. I've had this bring back Trinitrons that were showing the CRT scan lines to usable condition. Then again, I've also had it do nothing. It's not a sure fix, but definitely worth a shot.

A similar problem came up on another Dell monitor. Read about it here.

A summary: The service settings on many Sony monitors (This includes some Dells) requires an adapter (easy to build) and DAS or WinDAS software.

Or Google Sony DAS software and start reading.
