    Capacitors from Fry's.

Hi. I have an Acer 1916w LCD that I got from the job. It's power light would just blink so I assumed it was a cap problem. I took it apart and there are fat capacitors. I read somewhere on here that caps from Radioshack are worthless. Has anyone tried any from Fry's Electronics?

    The fat caps are:
    2 x 470uF 25v
    1 x 470uF 10v
    1 x 1000uF 10v

Fry's sells caps? Knowing the brands Fry's carries, I wouldn't expect them to be good.

Well I was having a look at Digikey and I'm not sure what kind to order. I can match up the specs but I'm not sure which ones are most reliable.

They are all rated at 105C and they are the Elite Brand.

Panasonic FM would be good. Watch your height and width though, you don't want to have caps that won't fit.

So I would get the FM Panasonic 470uF 25v for example, to replace the Elite 470uF 25v? Do any other specs aside from size matter? Be great if there was a store that sold these that I could drive to lol.

Even crazier idea...I don't suppose I could pull a cap from another device...I have tons of CRT's, vid cards, and mobo's.

You could - I just recently replaced a Samsung cap in my dad's TV with a rubycon I got out of an old monitor. One thing though - if the caps are used, especially if they're several years old, you can't really expect them to last a long time. What I would to is this: take caps from an old CRT to replace these temporarily, and order new ones (Panny FM would be great, like 370 said) from digikey. Then when the new ones come in, replace the temporary ones. My friend and I fixed an LCD by doing that.

Yup, a FM would easily match or exceed the specs of the elites, so as long as the uF is the same (it can actually increase or decrease a bit, not too much though) and voltage is the same (can be higher, is just a max rating of the voltage the cap can take, generally do not go lower unless you know the exact volts going to that cap)

Ok I'm gonna go hunting thru my CRT's. Digikey doesn't list any 470uF 10v's that are 10 x 16. Any other good places I can order this size?

If it has clearance above it, look for something taller.
                    or this: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=P12361-ND
                    panny FM 8mm x 11.50 10v 470uF

Frys Electronics carries NTE caps - many of them from Xicon. They tend to be expensive - $1.97 for a 22 uF 50 V cap. The same cap would cost about $.30 from Digikey. (I needed it to get the monitor working, OK!!!)

And a hint about Digikey. Specify USPS First Class mail for shipping. Typical cost for a dozen caps (enough to recap a monitor) will be under $10, including shipping.

The issue is the ones I see in the product index are smaller. They don't come any bigger aparently. The biggest I see is 8 x 11.5.

That must be the one i found - smaller usually isn't a problem. you'll probably have to bend the leads to get them to fit in the holes though

                            Re: Capacitors from Fry's.

Fry's caps are over priced and if they have a low ESR cap it got there on accident.
They don't usually have any low ESR at all.

Elite has a number of series' and FM are over-kill for some of them.
FM will work anyway but if you are aiming too high for the minimum specs it reduces your options.

Just use Digikey or mouser. Radioshack, fry's or other local multi-purpose store would not give you the caps with the specs you need (ESR wise)

                                Hi,

If power led blinks, there is problem with mosfets, too.
Measure both 40T03GP. When one of them shorted, order pair of them, too.
