    Weird color switching- Dell e171fp

I've got an older dell 17" monitor that will sometimes change its color. its running in 1280x1024@60hz. I am fairly sure its not the video card or vga cable because I have ran a samsung (710 mp) 17" on the same exact system earlier in the day.

sometimes it will switch back and forth rather quickly, sometimes the picture stays good and sometimes it look like its monochrome (of course now that I am trying to get a pic of it in "monochrome" its staying good, with a few teases). there seems to be no pattern in the color switching, i.e. it can be bad immediately after turn on or stay good after it has been on for hours. sometimes the screen will just flicker.

Looks like negative film look on that defanged image.

Well, good idea to open it up (this is Samsung 170n/171n series). Opening case is started by taking the stand off (4 screws at VESA mount) then front up, carefully get under the bezel edge where LCD is and pull up carefully to unsnap hook, work along long sides, till you can get top two corners freed up. Then rest comes easier on bottom, when now apart, don't lift out yet, you have ribbon cable for the buttons snaking over the metal frame to the controller board is in the way. Make sure there are no screws left on back.

Then carefully flip over on bath towel, lift out the back case. Gently unplug all the stuff except the power switch. Carefully lift LCD/metal frame out of the front bezel carefully because of fragile ribbon cable. Put LCD still facing down on towel. Undo 4 screws to get frame free from the LCD. Lift part-way, Feel around the LVDS cable plug for 2 tan color glue, carefully work these glue off and unplug the connector. Now you can seperate both power supply and controller as a unit from metal frame.
And can see how the capacitors on the power supply are. (bloated or replace them).

      Cheers, Wizard

I've replaced all the caps on the inverter, power supply, and I guess the logic board, I would send pics but my camera really sucks at fine detail

I have a 15" wide "I-don't-remember-what-brand" brand LCD that is permanently in "negative mode".

I had a problem like that but I use and old Gateway VX900 CRT. The color would go from brite and clear to washed out and then back to normal again for no reason at all. At other times windows and the internet would be colored right but if I started to play back a DVD it would be shown in black and white. The snake in my wood pile turned out being a bad stick of RAM. After changing out that RAM its been perfect ever since.

This is a good question for you Kc8adu. This mobo doesn't have onboard video at all. At the time of the color problem I was using a little 32meg AGP ATI card. How did the onboard ram failure screw up my video on the AGP card that has its own Ram? I'm now using the Nvidia Geforce FX5200. Its isn't the best card in the world but at least its 128 meg.

Mine already has a nice fan and sink on it. My brother put it on there when he was using it.

will that be enough? my nice one does not fit. bracket too big.

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

This one's a weird one, and still unsolved despite it having gone back to Dell once.

i7-8750H, GTX 1060 Max Q, 500GB SSD & Seagate 7mm 1TB HDD. 17.3 IPS screen. This has the fingerprint reader in the power button.

                              Backstory

I bought this from eBay, from a wallpapering shop. £650 in 2020 which was a good price considering it's a gaming laptop. Physically it's in perfect shape, apart from the hinge mounts on the palmrest failing in the time I've had it (I have a new palmrest for it). The usual thin plastic crap modern build quality!...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                              by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...
