Mag 900P: blown chip and two bad caps...

I am hoping the people in this forum may be able to help me out.

I have been given a monitor that exhibits the behavior described in this forum, namely it goes black in less than two seconds after being turned on.

It is a Mag 900P, with a Product ID of LT982s, Manufactured December 2004.

The capacitors on the Power Supply board look good in this monitor, instead it is a pair of capacitors just to the left of the power connector, on the Display controller which are swollen.

The catch is this: the Power Supply board I am looking at is not the same as the ones you seem to be describing and which I have seen pictures for in this forum (I have not seen every picture, but I have looked at many), and it looks like someone let the smoke out of one of the chips of the monitor I have.

I am hoping to be able to identify this chip so I can replace it while I am inside the monitor, anyway.

Ultimately I would like to know the recommended replacement caps, and where they can be ordered from, for the Display Controller, and if anybody has a Power Supply board like mine can they tell me what it says on the chip/what chip was/what it was for. Basically it looks like the monitor might work without this chip if I replace the two bad caps, but I am wondering if the chip might be why the caps failed, or the reverse.

1) The power supply board
2) The location of the bad chip, on the opposite side of the power board.
3) A lousy close up where you can sort of see the smoke trail.

replace the caps and try it.
those run hot and darken the board.

I just posted a similar problem, the PS that you have seems to be the same on as in my Xerox XG-91D monitor. The chip is the same one as just above it. The part number on mine is BD5A28 but I can find no reference for this chip. My chip is burnt and part of the silicone is missing. The caps by it are not swollen though. I hope someone can give us a cross reference on that chip.

To clarify:

The bad chip is on the power board.

The bad caps are on the controller board.

The pictures I included are only of the power board.

I guess no one can help. Can you tell me the part number of the same chip right next to it. I would like to track down one for my board

It was definetely hot alright. Those inverters look 15yrs old not 4.
Betch ya that came out of a doctors office near a window and was never turned off at max brightness.
The 5a28 brings up a data sheet from philips, but it's not your chip, sorry.
I always run my hand around a display monitor to take it's temperature in the stores.
Sales dudes think I have a wierd fetish.

Sorry for the delay, I had things to take care of that could not wait.

I have cleaned up the burned chip somewhat and I have discovered that on my board the burned chip and the one next to it are the same. There are two numbers on the Chips: a) 4606, and b) BE4Y1A.

BD5A28 is a manufacturer number, the part number is the number above this one, to the right of the A in a circle.

Thanks for this post. I have the exact problem as you do with the MAG 900P, LT982s. Chip 4606 is burnt. I haven't contacted the supplier you mentioned yet for the AO4606. Just wondering, do you have any extra chips laying around? If so, I'll buy a few from you instead if you're interested.

Yeah I have the same problem and I ordered the chip ao4620
because the first ic was exploded and I have to replace this monster

whole idiots at all the time are changing IC why?
you have to order AO4606 6 Amps current draw
or AO4620 7 Amp. after replace, you have to wax are of this IC
to better isolation from air, this chip works at 40khz(40,000) Hz/s WOW
must be isolated from air moisture. If you living at Niagara Falls area
do not buy LCD only CRT.
