Re: The Dreaded Dell monitor problem..

Thanks for all of your help, guys. I'm an elementary school computer instructor and would like to move from CRT to flat panel (it gets REAL hot in the Lab, and I hate running the AC in January here in Wisconsin). School is cancelled today because of extreme cold, so I'm going to head in and give this a try. I may also get my hands on five more of these real soon and have asked my students via a parent newsletter to bring in their old PS 1s & 2s for my use. This could work out real good, for cheap. Will advise.

Well, that didn't work. I believe I have a different model PS2 than the one pictured, FIXITNOW. Mine is a model SCPH-101 and bears little resemblence, certainly no fuses cleanly marked '20,' although I did find one marked '63.' So I think I'll wait and see what models the students bring in, if any.

That's a PSOne (An original playstation, but with an external PSU).
That's why it is not like the picture above and not like the PS2 either.

Thanks for that information. I think I'm just going to go to DigiKey and order a dozen.

                Dell 15R-5521 keyboard problem (KBC?)
                by SDNarcia
Hello, I have a Dell 15R-5521, with the problem that the Ctrl, Alt, Shitf and Num Lock keys do not work, I tested the keyboard with a keyboard tester and it is functional, I also got another new keyboard and the computer has the same problem with the same keys. Check continuity between the ZIF connector from the keyboard to the KBC and all pins are correct. I cleaned the ZIF connector and the KBC and I still have the same problem. I reinstalled windows just in case, and it didn't work. I updated the BIOS to the latest version A16 and there were no changes.

                As additional information,...

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
                by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

                Dell N5110 problem
                by Achille15
                Hello everyone,
so, I have this laptop Dell Inspiron N5110 with a heating problem on both CPU (I7-2680qm) and GPU (GT 525m), I tried many solutions, like changing thermal paste every month, using thermal pads on CPU and GPU, even using thermal pads on CPU nearby coils; but nothing worked, just minutes after booting the laptop shuts itself down so I thought it might be a short problem, so I decided to check what's going on, so I went online and some tutorial (general one) said to check inductors in order to find the shorted circuit, after checking (CPU removed), I found the culprit to be...

Issues Reviving Old Dell 2408WFPb Monitor
                by Jesus Coder
                Hello everyone,

I have been having some difficulties reviving an old Dell 2408WFPb PC monitor that I received for free. When I first acquired it, the backlights of the display were on but alas no image was showing. After extensive research on the topic, I went ahead and purchased a new t-con board for the monitor. After installing the board, I was then presented with a new screen that was half black and half green (more so black). I have been unable to figure out what to do next as I have limited knowledge of display electronics. Might anyone on this forum have an idea of what may...
