Re: Dell 1800MP projector - bad OST Cap
Just ran across one of these at our school, lots of dicussion in Dell's forums. Imagine you are the school that bought 150 of these units and they are ALL failing. So, yeah, I'll try a recap.

Re: Shuttle SS56G Capacitor Issue?
Well, the board count is at five now. I'd like to take a crack at recapping these, any equipment recommendations regarding a soldering iron and desoldering tool for under $200?

Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds
Two Dell Latitudes tipped against the side of a trash can. They had loose CPUs . . . quarter turn of a screwdriver and I loaded up Vista on both. Oddly, they each had a next day on site warranty good for an additional three years that the owner never chose to exercise.

Re: The Dreaded Dell monitor problem..
Thanks for that information. I think I'm just going to go to DigiKey and order a dozen.

Re: The Dreaded Dell monitor problem..
Well, that didn't work. I believe I have a different model PS2 than the one pictured, FIXITNOW. Mine is a model SCPH-101 and bears little resemblence, certainly no fuses cleanly marked '20,' although I did find one marked '63.' So I think I'll wait and see what models the students bring in, if any....

Re: The Dreaded Dell monitor problem..
Thanks for all of your help, guys. I'm an elementary school computer instructor and would like to move from CRT to flat panel (it gets REAL hot in the Lab, and I hate running the AC in January here in Wisconsin). School is cancelled today because of extreme cold, so I'm going to head in and give this a try. I may also get my hands on five more of these real soon and have asked my students via a parent newsletter to bring in their old PS 1s & 2s for my use. This could work out real good, for cheap. Will advise.

Nice, FIXITNOW, very nice. A picture is always worth a thousand words. But are you suggesting that I can use any of these to replace the faulty 2 Amp fuse on the inverter board for the Dell moniter model E151FPp?Re: The Dreaded Dell monitor problem..

Re: The Dreaded Dell monitor problem..
Folks, I'm in over my head a bit here and could sure use an assist. I just got my hands on a PS one and am looking at the board, but I have no testing equipment and am not an electronics pro by any means. I am handy with a soldering iron and persistent, however, so if anyone can help me identify the component in question (2A fuse as described by Bobdee in his 10-02-08 post) on this board I would sure appreciate it. Something like "the larger grey rectangular thingy south of Q602 and northeast of C317" would put me straight, I...

Re: DELL LCD E151FPp - black screen problem solved.
Bobdee, were you able to identify the correct fuse for the 501028.00 Rev 2 board? I'm thinking THIS ONE will do the job, what do you think?
Thanks for any feedback.Re: DELL LCD E151FPp - black screen problem solved.

Re: Shuttle SS56G Capacitor Issue?
Thanks for that, fellas. And dang!, another Shuttle (SS59G) arrived today with the same issue. I will post back with more details when I get a chance to give the machine a thorough accounting.

Shuttle SS56G Capacitor Issue?
Folks, I would sure appreciate your input on what I suspect is a bad cap issue that is preventing several (three) Shuttle SS56G v3.1 boards from posting. The systems have been brought to me over the past six months, more than coincidence. It was the Dell GX280 that brought me here many months ago, but now I suspect that the third capacitor pictured in the attached file is producing strange BIOS post activity, to wit: the system will not boot at all, it will boot part way through the BIOS intro but not complete, the system will shut down only if the power button is held for several seconds. Swapping...
