    Hannspree HF257

    Hi all!

I'm having the 2 seconds to black issue, I think, with my Hannspree HF257.

    I know, I should refer to: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10419

BUT! I just want to check that that's my specific problem, because there's no image on the screen even if I shine a light on it. Furthermore, the screen has started crackling before shutting off. Any thoughts, or should I just go ahead and follow the above thread?

    Many thanks,

    Tom

There are a few threads alredy re this model - google HF257 badcaps

Covers quite a lot including the suggestion that th ebulbs may be bad.
Have you experienced any flickering/pink screen prior to it going out.

Take the back off and try and pinpoint where the crackle originates.

Post good clear pictures of your boards

No pink screen - the screen will be running normally, then drops dramatically in brightness, and then goes black about 2 seconds later.

I'll take off the back first thing tomorrow - currently using an old laptop to catch up on the day's work this has put me behind! Any tips on taking the back off this model at all - I've taken out the screws but it's all seemingly one piece...

If it runs normally then goes black it is not really 2 seconds to black. That is when it goes black within 2 seconds of switch on.
Does your power led stay lit ? change colour? when the screen goes black?

Short term fix if you need it for work screen may stay on longer if you turn the brightness down .

You need to be careful taking it apart and putting it back together - reading one post
it is a tight fit and there are exposed connections on the side of the panel.
Try looking at e few youtube videos on lcd monitor disassembly.

I did have the brightness down for a month but then foolishly didn't do more - and now it won't stay on at any brightness. It does about 2-5 seconds, and sometimes drops in brightness just before going black...

The led stays on and doesn't change colour.

I've opened up the screen (as I say, I'm confident at that level, it's when we talk soldering and testing voltage that I fall down...) Should I simply go ahead and try swapping out capacitors at this point?

Also, I really appreciate the help!
