    Heh, it's the way I've always done it myself. I know there are better ways but I go with what is easier in the situation, which is usually this. As long as the component can't move I think it's OK. That said I am going to have to replace an IC socket on a double-sided board where half the pads came off due to a battery leaking. That will be a bit more fun. Luckily it's only two layers.

      Have you ever (and how if you have) repaired multilayer boards?

      I usually like to make solder "bridges". Which is basically just getting the solder to stick to my iron and just moving it from the pin to the trace. The pads I usually have to repair are for ICs or sockets where the pin and the pad/trace are very close so a solder air bridge is the easiest thing for me to do, and the most fun if you're into solder modeling.
