Element FLX-3710 Need cap size for 860-AZ0-GF371H MLT070A

    Hello.

I am working on a Element FLX-3710. Typical bad power supply with the 2 matched caps. The problem I have is the power supply has 1000uf/50 volt caps (bulged) and look like they were already replaced at some point. i ordered a kit and I received (2) 1000uf/10V instead of 50V caps. I thought the 50v was odd as I usually dont see that voltage range installed in these. Regardless, does anyone have experience with this specific power supply and be able to tell me what the correct values are? Location C112 and adjoining (sorry cant find the location id)...dont want to install 10v rated caps and damage something else.'
    Thanks

Here is a picture from the internet showing the caps. It has 35Volt caps but they may have been replaced also. The originals may have been 10 volt thats one of the resons why they failed,

Are they the caps for +5V power supply, the two by the small transformer with MLTxxx sticker on top?

        Hi budm,

Yes they are the two caps by the small transformer as you described.

install the caps and if it fires up, check to see what the voltage is at the caps.
if it is 5 volts a 10volt cap is good
if it is 12 volts 16 or 25 works
if 24 volts 35v will work

someone may have put 50 in thinking 50 was better than 10, but they may not have paid attention to esr or to amps on that 50

The two tall ones at the top of you picture and between the second largest heat sink and small transformer look like they are marked 25 volts

I assume I can do the voltage check with the bulged caps installed? It does fire up but has static and all sorts of weird responses. It looks from the back as though someone already had replaced those caps with 50V based on the solder markings, but they are bulged.

voltage might be off a bit with blown caps, but it should be in the general area.
you can also backtrack the traces from the pins that go to the main board if they are labeled for voltage

I think that is the 5 volt side which should be on even with the main disconnected

                Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps

                Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                by Paxman_Swede
                Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Help with switching power supply caps
                by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
