    Fix worked

I replaced the caps in the monitor today and all worked straight away.
A big thanks to everyone for the help (I didn't have a clue what I was doing)

Just a cowardly question, it cant blow up or electrocute me if I made a bad joint somewhere or replaced the wrong cap can it?

    Cheers,
    Mike

I would certainly hope not. If you're worried enough you could open it up and check to make sure but if it works then that's a good sign things are ok and I'd go with that.

If you made a serious mistake in replacing caps and soldering, you'd know it in less than a second after turning it on.

          Haha, thanks everyone.
I must admit to putting a towel over the screen the first time I switched on.

          Cheers all,
          Mike

An exploding capacitor (or other component) can sound scary but won't hurt you, especially behind several layers of plastic and metal etc.

The only thing that would stand a chance of blowing up in a really dangerous fashion is the CRT (picture tube) from an old monitor or TV set, but that would only happen if you took a hammer to it or did something similarly idiotic.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
              by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

[HELP] Acer AN515-55 (LA-J871P Rev: 1B) – Board won't power on after GPU investigation – Suspecting Super I/O or PCH

              Hi everyone,

I'm working on an Acer Nitro 5 unit with the following specs:
              • Motherboard: LA-J871P Rev: 1B
              • Model: Acer AN515-55-59MT
              • S/N: NHQ7JAL00403906A973400
              • SNID: 03902728734

              Initial Issue

The laptop initially presented graphic issues and driver failure (Code 43) for the GPU.

After preventive maintenance (cleaning, thermal paste, etc.), it powered on normally. We disassembled it again to inspect the GPU, reassembled...

Asus FX505DD REV 2.0 no power after someone replaced the cmos battery with a screwdriver.
              by thesame
I have a dead FX505D, motherboard FX505DD REV 2.0 , the owner replaced the cmos using a screwdriver and he touched something on the board, since then the laptop its not starting, i have managed to see that U8800 (BQ24780SRUYR) charging IC is getting hot under a thermal camera , i have desoldered it but the laptop still doesn't power on, i also have no voltage at power connector on the board. I also replaced the U8800 but still no power. What should i check next?

HP Probook 640 G5 - replaced blown components, getting power led, fan full, 5-flashes on CAPS Lock and NUM lock, black screen
              by zlr8r
Hey guys, bit stumped with this laptop after replacing 2 blown components i.e., MP86493, MP2979A.

To begin with, this laptop was dead-dead.

              Now with replaced (visibly) blown components, i do get some progress; after connecting battery or main cable;
              • am getting white power led
              • 5-long-flashes on CAPS Lock and NUM lock
              • then, fan full speed
              • CPU heats up some (smaller die PCH, does not)
              • always constant black screen no matter what's tried
              • no USB recognition
              • no HDMI output
this is as far as I can get with it and not sure where to inspect next ?

              I tried...
