    Samsung 2220wm 2nd go!

    Hello All,

I got 1.5 years out of the last repair. Now I have a new issue.

The "out to black" in XX seconds. I turned the monitor off then back on... to adjust the brightness... works for a minute, then back to black.

I took out the board and before I dive in to changing the capacitors (which look fine, no bulging), I wanted to get the advice of the pros here.

Here are pictures of the board.

    Thanks in advance,
    ryan

Did you change those small blue ballast caps (next to the inverter transformers, 4 of them, the soldering looks bad), looks like they got hot and caused the board to turn brown. I would check and see if it shows any resistance readings, it should not, this is not 100% test since the meter does not put out over 1000V as those caps are exposed to.

Thanks for the reply budm, you were the one who help me originally. Here is a picture of the original pull of the board. it looks like i did replace at least 2 of those blue caps. Should I just try to clean up the soldering? or replace the caps? Looks like the burn was there the 1st time.

I will let budm answer that but there looks to be some rings on the transformer
solder joints - I would consider removing as much old solder as you can and resoldering them with leaded solder

Yes, try cleaning those flux. It does looks like cold joints on the transformer pins. Try lowering the brightness level down just enough to see the screen and see if it will stay on longer. Also need to check the transformer high voltage side windings to see if they are about the same.

Lowering the level of brightness to 20% and contrast to 59% seems to keep the screen on. Does this narrow down the issue? I haven't changed the capacitors since they look good.

hmmmm. plugged in the monitor and lowered the levels to 20% and 59%. My daughter, whom i didn't tell about the levels, jacked the brightness back up to 100% and so far, it works fine.
