    Westinghouse LCM-17v8 Torn Ribbon Cable

    Bored with nothing to do thanks to the recent snow, my sister wanted me to take a look at her monitor which had the common Westinghouse fade to white problem.
    I replaced 4 caps and all was fine until I was putting the darn thing back together and pinched the ribbon cable between a metal bracket and tore it a little. It's the ribbon that goes to the front panel with the power button etc.
    If i wiggle the cable I can get the monitor to power on but the connection is flakey at best.
    Is it possible to fix or is there anywhere I could buy a replacement? (I briefly checked ebay and found noting)

      It looks like the 3 conductors (the middle one of the 3 is damaged) on the left end of the cable are for ground, you can see all 3 pin on the switch board are tied together, so check and see if all 3 lines are ground and tied together.

          I hooked the monitor up to a PC and it fires right up, but the power button and power LED do not work, so I guess as it is now the monitor is on full time.
          If she plugs it in to a power strip and uses that to turn off the monitor would it hurt anything to run it that way?
          Its an old beater monitor that my nephew uses to play kids games on.

          To be honest I'm such an electronics newb I don't know how to check to see if they are grounds and tied together.

              Those ribbon cables are very delicate. (as you found out). There is a possibility that by attempting to fix it, you could render it nonfunctional. As long as there are no shorts; I'd go with the power strip to turn it on and off. 17" monitors are not even worth putting money into like power buttons and ribbons. (in my humble opinion) Besides, it's just an old beater for the nephew and his games!

                  Yep it's not worth putting any more money into it..I watched a couple movies on it and so far it is 100% stable.
                  I think I will just have them use a power strip.

                  Note to self: be extra careful with ribbon cables..much like my ex girlfriend they can be fragile and a big pain in the behind. lol

                      Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

                      The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                      Original T-con:
                      Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                      First replacement T-con:

                      I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

                      Hello all ~

                      I have this LG 50" plasma tv that is in perfect working condition except for the fact that it has one (and only one), singular torn ribbon strip on one (and only one) of the 8 orange ribbon connectors that feed from the Y-Sustain to the screen itself.

                      So, as a result, there is one, singular thin black horizontal line that goes across the entire screen. Distracting enough to render the picture unwatchable for all intents and purposes.

                      What I am wondering is if anyone out there has ever had any success in fixing one of these ribbon cables...

                      12v pin is shorted to ground in the LCD board (1st picture) if the LVDS cable is disconnected, 12v are OK in the Main Board (2nd Picture)

                      Hi friends.
                      I was having this issue since I purchased the monitor,but then again it maybe works like that.
                      Back at that time I didn't want to RMA the monitor due to covid and waiting toooo long for return.
                      So the monitor CJG50 32 " from Samsung has 3 inputs (DP+2HDMI).
                      I have 3 PCs hooked up to all 3 ports.
                      But only over displayport input monitor wakes up from standby and I do get picture.
                      Over both HDMI I had to manually select the source over monitor settings (OSD settings built into monitor).
                      Input source was selected to automatic by default in...
