Phillips Brilliance 230c 2 secs to black

    Hi all,

I'm a graduate power supply design engineer so diagnosing the power supply in this beastie isn't a problem.

This is the inverter, which I believe is fine: http://www.super-laptop-parts.com/il...1-p-12866.html

I've replaced all the caps but the main bulk cap as these are unlikely to blow.

I'm getting a stable 5v on the output rail, and 24vac (strange) on the output of all 4 inverters. I looked at the switching waveforms on the scope and they're all square waves 50% duty and the same p-p. I will do some more testing at work tomorrow..

The controller chip on the inverter is the INL837 which I can't find a datasheet for. I'm going to take the timer pin to 0v which apparantly stops the inverter from shutting down,

The transformer secondaries are 459.5ohms and 445.5ohms which seems OK but i will be testing these on the works LCR meter. All the fets are good.

A new panel for this display is £60. Can I repair the backlight in the LCD? Or buy new CCFLs? If so, where from?

I thought the backlight was fine. Because when you turn it on the screen goes blue w/ logo for 2 seconds.

I have a second working model but I don't want to open that one if I can help it... I will have a go at trying my "broken" inverter on my good panel.

Any ideas as to what it could be? I've thrown a lot of info out there lol.

You can repair Backlights IF the fault is the wiring, and this is very common,by simply rewiring them, particularly the return wires. The comparison of the transformers resistance is very close to the 3% which is the max that the majority of members use,but again maybe your LCR meter may be helpful with them.

CCFL resistance all reading 0L (Probably above the 10M range of my meter).

One CCFL Reads 1.6M, assuming its bust.

Windings seem to have decent inductance. Also going to take out the cap on the soft-start pin tonight........ see if that makes any difference.

Wiring looks OK but going to replace tonight hopefully. Anywhere I can get new ones for this model???
